Let's not let this decend into a character/cannon
debate...keep it related to the issue of creating this
crossover/fusion story... if ya got flames, send them to
me off list so I can feed them to the Skuld Internet Flame
Shredder (tm)...^^; That being said...

ehnnn.. I think that you're kinda missing the whole
point of what AMS is
about and how the characters grew and changed over the
last 166 chapters of
the story.

There's a lot you are missing too. I think the point was
less of a crossover and more of a fusion. Additionally
this is the author's story and by the looks of things it's
going to be an AU, which opens things up quite a bit.

Bell isn't just a goddess with super powers...she
also is NOT a martial
artist... and doens't like it when people fight.

And how is that bad for Ranma? Fighting and sparring are
different...training in the Art and street fighting are
different things.

You gotta look at the root of what AMS is all
about... and also what Ranma
is about to see what I mean.

As far as what you go on to say about Ranma and Belldandy
as a couple... yeah.. exactly.

For AMS... it's who she is and who Keiichi is that
makes their
interactions with those around them so special

Indeed. The same can be said of all the central couples
in different series... so?

You kinda end up with a choice though in your fic
idea they way you present
it.

The first choice is having Bell and K1 never having
met... but ... if you
start it out with her never having met Keiichi...
then she loses a ton of
who she is... Don't get me wrong.. the anime is fun
for AMS... but the manga
is the canon for the characters.... That said what
Bell has learned and the
person she has become are due to her being with
K1.She'd never be the same
person with Ranma. Frankly the original Bell would
have just seen that
Ranma was also engaged to the other fiancees and
gotten him married off to
one of them and hot footed it out of there.

So what's wrong with changing who Belldandy is in the
"present" by changing the past? People do it to Ranma all
the time. He gets stuck as a girl, has a sister, trained
as a ninja, Ranma is born as a girl, etc. etc.

Keiichi was a different matter entirely. Initially
Bell wanted OUT of the
wish... and she was pretty upset about it all at the
start. In fact.. if you
read the first few manga you get the sneaking
suspicion that she's
deliberately making life tough for him and zapping
him as payback for his
wish. She has this secretive little smile that just
makes it plain that
she's not as innocent as she wants him to think.

But ultimately, he was patient, and kind and
accepting of her... tons more
mature than Ranma is capable of being... and that
self sacrificing and kind
sweet nature of his is what won her over... In fact
it wasn't until the Lord
of Chaos story arc where Bell got freed from the
wish that she finally told
him that she stayed because she loved him.

And Ranma and Akane started out opposed to the engagement
and fighting heavily. Ranma was very brash and ready to
leave at any time to get a cure. By the end... well who
wouldn't want to be cured, but I think a lot his
wandering, impusiveness and brash attitude became toned
down somewhat...not gone just slightly reduced and more
maturely put.

So there is no chance that given different equation, you
won't get a different result? The influence of them on
each other's lives could have interesting results. How it
turns out...how well it comes out will depend on the
author and what he/she wants for a story.

Not impugning Ranma's character... but Ranma could
never win her heart..
he's too immature... and frankly too focused on the
hear and now and too
prone to insult and taunt others to bring out the
gentle loving side of
Bell.

Now you sound like you are relying a lot on fanfic
convention Ranma vs canon Belldandy. Those two quantities
are not equally comparable.

Now the second choice seems more likely to me...
Having the story pick up at
the end of the Ranma manga following his first year
in Tokyo with the
Tendos... and having Bell and K1 having been
together for a while might be a
good idea. If you have her being ripped away from
Keiichi.. you have the
whole angst issue and Ranma's feelings of utter
guilt and horror at ruining
her relationship with Keiichi right off to play
with. .. good fodder for
story too.

This isn't a bad idea, but it also isn't want was being
shot for either.

Anyway... heres the thing...

When Belldandy showed up in the AMS! manga.. she was
far far more prone to
violence than she is now... tossing power bolts
around like crazy at Urd.
Over time Keiichi and her have mellowed each other
and his quiet
determination has led to her picking up cues from
him and becoming more
determined and solid than she was originally. If you
have her show up like

kids...it never happened
in the manga.

Really? Didn't know that, however, what does this have to
do with the story... wait.. a more violence prone
Belldandy may make for a better match for Ranma than the
overly serene version that results from the events of OMG
as you have described them.

Anyway, I'd say that the best option might be for
you to have it pick upwith
Keiichi about to propose to Bell at the temple...and
havig her tell him with
a smile that she has to go off to grant a wish but
will be right back. .He
is left at the temple working up his nerve... when
something happens...

When Ranma fell in the pool... and he was given his
curse... he was also
like the 1 millionth person to fall in a Jusenkyo
pool ... and as a special
gift of the Kami... he was given a wish also. But it
was not an immediate
gift Noooo, he gets it one year later (to the day)
that he fell in the
pool...that way he had to live with the curse for at
least a year before he
could wish it away. So, suddenly 1 year later (the
events of the Ranma 1/2
manga all occured in 1 year) and he finally gets to
make his one wish..too
bad that he doesn't even know that he has one.
This is when the Jusenkyo
guide shows up and tells him about it in front of
everyone at the Tendo's.

Sounds like a different story, but equally interesting.

Hmm think about that carefully... Ranma with a
wish.. how would Genma take
to that idea?... or Ryoga?... or Shampoo? or Ukyo?

Genma would want it for himself.

Ryoga maybe tells Ranma that for all the wrongs he's
done to him that if he
wishs Ryoga's curse gone... that he'll finally
forgive him (maybe Ranma asks
him what it'll take to get him off his back before
this)

Shampoo.. Ukyo... well it's pretty obvious what they
want... for ranma to
wish that all the other engagements (except their
own) were broken.

This leads to a huge free for all... Classic Ranma
1/2 madness.

Here is the major key that you've been missing...you said
it yourself but didn't realize it. Ranma isn't in the
least bit a serious series, or a drama with comedy. It's
a comedy with/about martial arts mixed with some curses
and demons. Inuyasha is closer to what to are looking at
in OMG than Ranma... that is drama that I am refering
to...character growth. They do a bit in Ranma, but after
the first few episodes in the anime this takes a backseat.
I've read less of the manga than seen of the anime, but
to my knowledge it is still true...although I do think
there was some more character development in the manga
than the anime. I could be wrong here.

Anyway the point is that you were comparing apples and
oranges between the two series. If one is to make a
fusion of sorts with the two series, and introduces
certain changes from the beginning...it goes the AU route
and that leaves the door fairly wide open for author's
interpretation...vs a continuing series fic.

Everyone trying to get a piece of Ranma... trying
to make him make his wish
for them...

That's when he makes a thoughtless wish in the heat
of the moment the way it
has gotta be for dramatic humor and impact... if he
actually made a
thoughtful wish .. well.. that'd be totally out of
character for him.

Yep... very Ranma 1/2 like. But at least in my mind...
that wasn't the goal. It wasn't to reproduce Takahashi's
style and "dramatic humor." Rather, to create something
more serious and dramatic...leaning towards OMG in tone.

Seeing how wonderfully sweet and kind Belldandy is
to him while he's been
trying to cope with the situation and while she is
busy defending him from
all the people that just want a piece of him..... he
yells at all his
fiancees and everyone else when he gets completely
fed up and says something
like: "Damn it, people!... All that you guys want me
to do is give you what
you want, isn't that right? Pop.. you just want me
to wish your curse
gone.. you don't care about what I want.....
whaddabout my curse, huh?... I
can't wish mine and your's gone at the same time...
now can I?" ect ect
ect...and finally at the end of his tirade he says
somethign like "Ya know..
I wish.. I really just wish that I had a someone as
nice and sweet as
Belldandy is in my life... maybe as a fiancee or
something...insteada
nothing but a buncha bakas. like you all are being."

It think this is essentially what people were thinking
about... that Belldandy acting in such a way would make a
good "traditional" type wife for Ranma (as much as a
goddess first class could be anyway). Taking your points
into account, I'm now talking about pushing the characters
into a quite different direction where they may not be
quite as recognizable to their original counterparts.

BAM!!!!

All that stuff about being the best martial artist..
ect ect ect... he
wouldn't wish for that... and frankly powering him
up is a bad idea.. he's
already plenty powerful.. why would you insist on
giving him more? Plus, he
already thinks he IS the best.

I agree... if this is written post jusendo, then I doubt
Ranma would bother to ask for that. Even before then... I
don't think that he'd wish for a shortcut... to pass on
the actually learning and mastering of a technique. Like
for programmers... the first time you manage to correctly
excute a spinning, aerial, outside cresent kick is quite
an amazing feeling (provided you landed right)... like
getting that last bug out of your program and it executes
properly.

Bell is simply too mature for him to be able to handle
IMO... and the other
fiancees would find themselves completely outclassed in
every way shape and
form if they tried to stack up to her. The truth is..
Cologne would be
falling all over herself to get out of Bell's way ( she is
a goddess
afterall) and Ukyo is already so gender confused that
she'd see that
competing against her in any womanly arena as completely
impossible for
her
to win.

Maybe as you've described post-keiichi Bell...she may be
too mature for Ranma. Another way to think of it is...
how much older is she? Keiichi is in college.. (forget
the goddesses living hundereds of years/forever thing)...
he's at least 19, probably 20-21, and Belldandy kinda
drops into the same mental age. Just a Urd fits 27-30
range and Skuld is in junior high...

So IMO you gotta make Ranma's wish be a spur of the
moment thing.. and that
means it has to be natural... Ranma has this curious
physical defect.. his
mouth generally says whatever he is thinking without
filtering it first.

This is fine but not necessarily a must later on in the
series...the wish I mean. After all his experience
with wishes and magic, he'd hold a few reservations and
put a little thought towards the wording.

Foot in mouth is curable...particularly if the situation
has changed form early in the series
