Not only that, it's a really abrupt change in attitude for Hotaru.
_She_ lied to _them_ about what she was buying. It doesn't seem right
(to me) for Hotaru to get that angry. Now, if we accept that Hotaru's
pissed, Setsuna's reaction works for me.

I'd have her more exasperated than angry, personally. Along the lines
of "I didn't buy sandles, I lied to cover up the fact I was buying home
pregnancy tests."

I can see your point. I was thinking that hotaru was more exasperated than
actually angry, but exasperated to the point that she wanted to scream.

Those 'sandals' almost exposed her that first morning...

Everyone is used to Setsuna knowing all and telling damn little, so Hotaru
probably thought Setsuna was needling her with the question about the
sandals. I can see an isolated outburst from Hotaru, but an apology later
would be in character. Possibly at the same time they reveal Ranko's real
identity.

If he has anything to say, Hotaru will not be fighting for atleat the next 7
months, and he is going to be doing a lot of fighting...

Both of which will probably drive Hotaru right up the wall.

"Lovey-dovey crap?" Sam, work on your character voices a little. That
does not sound like something Setsuna would say. "Overt displays of
affection" seems more her style.

Most of the time I would agree with you, but Setsuna is not exactly
herself... she's pissed, stressed, and her head is killing her.

She also has a more human side that she normally hides very well; remember
the WWWF scene. Not having advance knowledge of events so close to her is
really unsettling to her. It prevents her from using many of the
strategems that make her look so in control.

I find this particular chapter of interest because of how Setsuna treats
Ranma. She's pissed at him, but appears accept his attempts to do the
right thing for what they are. She's being surprisingly understanding
of the situation.

She knows more about Ranma then he does. She also knows that there is
nothing she can really do about it, and to try to will probelly lead to more
harm then it's worth. If you can't beat them, join them.

She's a little relieved that she doesn't have to be responsible for
_everything_. In this case, it's because with a Butterfly around she
_can't_.
