Thought I'd toss this one to the list to judge if it's worth continuing...

He trusted her, he killed for her and worst of all he loved her. Ranma Saotome's heart broke upon opening the door to his fiance's room only to find her in bed with someone else, bucking like a bitch in heat, writhing and moaning on top of someone else. The martial arts protge could only close the door silently as his dreams died unborn. He could do nothing to stop the tears that fell from his eyes. He wiped those errant streaks of sorrow, thinking it unmanly to cry. He walked down the stairs, his control absolute, and his demeanor inhuman.

Kasumi paused in the midst of her chores as she was suddenly assaulted by gusts of frosty wind, an unthinkable occurrence in the middle of spring. She looked towards where she thought the source of those ill-omened winds would be and gasped.

Standing in the midst of the snowstorm, Ranma calmly walked down the stairs. His eyes, icy blue and cold, searched the room for his father and the Tendo patriarch. He ignored Kasumi's gasp and headed straight for the engawa, where the two old men were playing one of their never ending games of shogi. "I'm leaving," he said "the engagement is off. I have no intentions of marrying someone who doesn't give a rats ass about me." He left them, stunned and frozen in their seats and headed off to god knows where. His heart, hurting and angered at itself for trusting another, sealed itself in a wall of ice, the ice discipline for the art instilled in him. He went away from Nerima, not even looking back once. Unnoticed, the moisture in the air condensed around him creating a very thick fog that covered his leaving.

He wandered the globe for two years, perfecting his art, honing his skills. At one time at the tip of Mount Fuji, he attacked and killed a yuki-onna, a snow-maiden. Its life force was absorbed by the freezing cold that was his soul. The ease of killing and the remorselessness he felt made him realize that he was too dangerous to exist. He focused his will and created a huge column of ice that extended to the heavens. Inside that column he flared his chi and waited for the one who will take him away from this life.

Winter's heart

Ami Mizuno, known to the world as Lady Mercury of the Crystal Tokyo City-state, frowned as she observed the readings Aquinas, the central computer of the Mares Serenitas Research Center, displayed on the main screen. Her brow wrinkled as she jacked up her pocket Mercury computer to the main computer and summoned the Mercury visor from subspace. The data showed that there was a fluctuating energy spike of immense proportions emitting from the frozen wasteland that was formerly Tokyo proper, it's center being the cone of the now dormant Mount Fuji. "I better go there for a more up-close observation," she remarked to herself as she exited the computer room. She didn't wish to bother her queen, Serenity being overly stressed as she is, due to her impending labor and the others no less panic-stricken. She permitted herself a small laugh as she remembered her dear friend waddling like a penguin as she left her bedroom towards the throne room proper to greet dignitaries from other states. She de-transformed as she entered the teleportation room, pausing only to grab a thick parka and some analysis equipment. A blink of light later the room was empty.
Ami found herself in the middle of a barren, icy landscape. Spires of ice jutted from the ground in even patterns like pikes awaiting the enemy that will be impaled by them. "Not even wild grass grows here," she said, shivering despite her thick coat. Her teeth rattled as fierce winds blew across the land. She held her transformation rod in shivering fingers as she altered her form to that of Eternal Mercury. She frowned at the now useless equipment she brought with her. 'The tools are too frozen to be of any use now,' she thought as she gamely made her way towards the location that her computer had indicated to be the source of the energy beacon.
