The following is a short essay on Writing and Editing (or C&C)
based partly on things I learned at the A-Kon "Seminar for Really
Serious Writers" and various writing panels.  Please be aware that

as far

as I'm concerned, writing on FFML is simply practice for writing for
publication. Some people write a couple of Gigs of prose  purely for

their

own pleasure, with no intention of publishing, which is perfectly

fine. But

they probably don't want to read my C&C or my helpful hints on

writing. ^_*

    Excellent advice, Allyn.  Much of this echo's information I've
gleaned from professional writers' seminars I've attended over the
last few years.  (I'm off to another next weekend.  They're kind
of pricey - most cost as much as an Anime convention - but well
worth the trip if one is serious about writing.)
    One thing to keep in mind; writing is a craft.  You can only
get better through constant practice and continual feedback.
(Some professional advice doesn't hurt but usually tough to come
by.)  C&C is vitally important to that feedback.  More the better.
While not all of it is useful, be grateful for whatever you receive.
Remember, those doing the reviewing are taking their own time to
provide their thought.  Thank them, even if their input is not
immediately useful.  Hearing nice things is a wonderful ego-boo,
but not always helpful for developing your craft.  Accept
suggestions for improvement as just that; suggestions.  The story
is yours and whatever form it takes belongs to you alone.

    Whether you write with an eye towards getting published or just to
share a story with friends, write because you WANT to write.  As the
Nike ad says: Just Do It!
