"Auuugh..." Shinobu whimpered. "Not again! Motoko is trying
to seduce Koara!"
Okay, this is something that's been bothering me, and I simply can't not ask.
Why do you call her Koara? All the mangascans I've seen have her as Kaolla,
the anime eps I've checked (fansubs, dunno about the region 1 release of the
dvds) call her Kaolla, and I've been told that the official release of the
manga by Tokyopop calls her Kaolla as well. Now, I could see calling her
Kaora, because of the whole Japanese l/r thing(although it does bring to mind
fears of seeing people start writing Ranma fics with names such as Lanma or
Lyouga or Corogne), even though it really stands out since every other source
I've seen has it as Kaolla, but why do you switch it to Koara, instead? Is
this a simple misspelling (although completely consistent) or do you have a
reason for switching the 'ao' to 'oa'?
As it is, it's very jarring to read 'Koara' over and over again. I'm hoping
it's just a mistake, but finding out there's a reason for it, no matter what
the reason is, would at least turn it into just a slightly annoying quirk
instead of something that causes me to pause every time I come across it.
Interrupts the flow of the reading just a little bit.
I do it just to piss you off, Therm. Why do you ask?
Actually, the truth of the matter is far less interesting. It
involves an explanation from Nikholas F. Toledo Zu, combined with a
mispelling on my part. So, I at one point looked up the spelling in
katakana and translated it that way myself, with the added bonus of
a typo. I've since switched the 'oa' to an 'ao', though I imagine
it'll be a while before I can make myself write that way
consistantly (The revision will fix it, and chapter four is being
written with the corrected spelling, etc). As far as other LH
fanfictions I've read go, the only ones that mention Suu use the
'Kaora' spelling, with the exception of those that use such other
creative spellings as 'Kindo-kun' or 'Rid-kun', and so forth.
As your fears of my forthcoming destruction of the fanfiction world
by making people mispell horrifically....
I wouldn't sweat it. I'm a lone author with a small quirk, not
someone trying to dictate fanon to the world at large. I'd be
shocked if anyone who hasn't replied to me directly has even
bothered to read it.
Which takes me to my next task for the day....
