  Uh, punching out mailboxes doesn't seem that extreme when
compared to what you stated before. However, the sentence
does show that Hotaru is learning to suspend disbelief where
Ranma is concerned.

I beleave he is refuring to the episode in one of the earlier chapters

where

Ranma punched through a mailbox like the post office has on street corners
and infront of buildings for people to drop there mail off. very
understandable mistake with using "punching out mailboxes" instead of
"punching through mailboxes" wich is the what hotaru is thinking of.
