Actually, this is part of why I sent it out for a massive going through.
I did use the Japanese names originally, then I'd get criticized for not
making them "JUST LIKE" the Japanese Senshi. I've only ever seen the
American dubs, sadly, and most of my info is from them. I finally, after
much commentary decided to rename them after the American girls, and it
seems I still can't win.
I think that after the first 100K words or so, they are as much your
characters as Naoko's (except for copyright purposes, of course).
Personally, I prefer the Japanese names, but you are the primary person
that has to be pleased with the result.
The personalities are up to you to define, as long as you remain consistent
with yourself, you have done what you should. Unless you are claiming
absolute conformity with one version or the other, differences should be
expected.
