Hi, all.
Well... the story was very good, the debate that resulted from it is...
something I'm not touching with a pole... and then there was this.
You know, I don't care one bleeding bit about Shampoo's portrayal in this
story. But this:
While I made this point earlier to Nick Privately... I'll make it public.
Me and Jason_Miao were talking, about the ONE true flaw.
(Someone pointed this out a bit before... but I'll expand on it.)
Death by Cancer at the age of 60.
*snicker*
...this is something else. Something that hits close to home and drags up
bad feeling.
Yeah. Right.
Ranma, Genma, Soun, Happi, Colonge and Ryouga (plus Herb and a few others)
are _chi_ masters. Able to heal themselves to the point of it being
automatic, without thought for them.
Colonge and Happi are BOTH over 100 years of age. It's not unthinkable
that
Genma is still alive in this, nor a few others.
Between the various magics and Chi abilities shown, Ranma dying from
Cancer
of all things...
Is a BIT unbelivable.
Everyone, repeat after me: CANCER DOESN'T CARE!! So WHAT about these 'chi
masters' - if anything, the ability to heal fast would ENCOURAGE Cancer, not
prevent it. It doesn't matter who else is alive - this is about Ranma. And
all the 'magic' shown in the series would be more likely to make things
worse rather than better.
This is quite beleivable. I can speak from personal experience here. I used
to be considered very healthy. A 'fast healer' as you put it. I could count
the number of times I had gotten really sick on one hand - and still have
fingers left over. Then, in november of '99, I got cancer. I got very
lucky - what I got was very easy to treat. Regardless of that I NEARLY DIED!
And now that I am in remission (beleive me, you are never 'cured') I am
still affected. I tire easily, seem to catch a cold every other week, and
there are all the 'little' changes that aren't so apparent.
Do NOT belittle Cancer, pal. It can get to anyone, and ALWAYS leaves its
mark.
There are ways to fix this.
Easy is that Ranma was posioned. (say a posion that disrupts his chi
slowly?)
<blink>
I thought the purpose of the disease was so there wasn't a tangible enemy
involved with Ranma's death. It would change both Ranma's and Akane's
reactions if it was poison (which has to be administered) rather than a
natural occuring condition. Neither would be able to accept things so well
if it was the result of some kind of attack.
Well, that's my two bits on the table. I've said my piece.
