To Nightelf:

I did a double-take when I saw a story with your name on it in my inbox.
And then I dove into it with glee. Your stories have always been a good
example of mature exploration of the series, an excellent example of what
is good in fanfiction.

This story is wonderfull, as such is typical of your other writings that I
have read. I enjoyed reading it very much. I might wish for more of your
work in the future, I hope.

To DB Sommer:

Are you talking about the incidents with shampoo, and her actions during
the failed wedding? I had to re-read the story to figure out what you
might have meant. To mee thats a good sign it might be baseless. The only
thing that stuck out looking for villainization, was the use of Shampoo to
create tension.

Wich is what she is good for. Thats pretty much her whole purpose in the
manga, if I remember correctly. She was pretty much introduced as an
ongoing character to create tension between Akane and Ranma.

At the end of the Figure-Skating martial Arts Contest, the relationship
between Ranma and Akane was progressing steadily. The addition of a female
suitor for Ranma was a prettty blatant device to derail that, I thought.
(As evidenced by her bursting through walls at especially inoppurtune
times...)

My opinion on this rant is that it is pretty off-base. I didnt seem
anything like character bashing when I read it the first time, and it
still doesnt. To me it seems more like it clashes against your own
preconceptions/likes, and you felt compelled to make a statement.

Unless you weren't talking about shampoo, in wich case im apologize for
beeing off base.

As for your accusation of "unneccesary villainization" and your statement
"this could have been a good piece" I find them both ludicrous in the
extreme.

The fact is that I had to read the story again, just to figure out what
you were talking about.

When you couple this with not actually SAYING what part of his story you
objected to, any pretense this had toward being contructive criticism
wears thin, indeed.

To all.

I sincerely hope mr. Leifker does not become discouraged by such an
unjustified attack. I found myself delighted by the story.

You know, this could have been a good piece, save for the completely
unneccesary villainization (and OOC behavior) of a character. Most people
probably won't even detect it, since it's been horribly overused to the
point where it's more of a standardized fanfic convention (like the idea
that Akane hits Ranma every time he's obnoxious or the existance of an
'Amazon Cabinet of Love Potions') than having any reasonable basis on the
actual series (which implies the exact opposite direction would be taken).
In 'ND's case it's even worse than most since there's absolutely no reason
for it. It adds nothing whatsoever to the story, other than to go out of its
way to cast a character in a far more negative light than they ever really
were. Do I think in this case it's bashing? I'm not sure, but probably not.
I would guess it comes more from relying too much on automatically using
fanfic convention (a sin I HAVE been guilty of on more than one occasion)
than actual antipathy of the character, though I could be wrong.

I will say it's well written and the prose flowed beautifully. Actually
those are probably contributing factors to why I pointed it out in this
piece rather than others it's been used in; it stands out all the more
because it's so terribly out of place. My recommendation, axe them
completely and read through it again. You'll discover the story isn't
changed in the slightest, since what you put in was uneccesary and
gratuitous.

Just my two cents worth.

(Who is tired of seeing fanfic cliches and being told how 'great and
awesome' they are, and will probably get flamed for it)
