BTW, one thing that occurred to me when I read the last chapter of this
story: Ukyo showed up, but when the action scene was about to start, we
instead cut away to a lengthy flashback. Kinda struck me as unfortunate
timing; right when you've got me interested in the confrontation that's
about to take place, we cut away for backstory.

I think your standards are a little bit too high here, Gary. Come up with a
plausible reason why the characters have such changes in the first place?
We all know that Jyusenkyou is already completely inconsistent--some pools
change personality, some don't. Some are specific (drowned Akane) and some
are general (drowned girl, not drowned-insert-name-of-ancient-Chinese-girl-
here). Taro's octopus curse combined, yet Nannichuan would be a cure, it
wouldn't make Ranma half of each sex. Compared to this, making hair color
red is nothing.

Indeed Jusenkyo is inconsistent, but whatever characteristics it does
impart come from the person (or whatever) that drowned at Jusenkyo. (I
might add that Pantyhose only *thought* he had personality-chaging
water, and for all we know the "virtuous man" spring might not even
exist.) So you're faced with the problem of explaining how the girl who
drowned at Jusenkyo had that color hair. Moreover, appealing to the
mysteries of Jusenkyo does nothing to explain Shampoo (who was drawn
with that color long before she was cursed), Nodoka, and probably others
that I've forgotten.

And I have a counter-suggestion, Gary. If you're *not* going to make female
Ranma's hair red, then you have to explain away the scene in Ranma 1/2
Nettouhen episode #68 where Azusa wants "Scarlett" and Ranma thinks Azusa
means her. (Most references to this episode say that Akane did it, but I
checked the actual episode--it's Ranma).

Oh, I agree absolutely; in my opinion, someone using the anime as a
source *should* explain that. ^_^ I only hope you're using "you" in the
sense of "any random person" here, as I personally do not use the anime
as a source and do not consider it to be any more canon than any other
non-Takahashi source.

Now I have a counter-suggestion for you: if you're going to spam the
list with a C&C-offshoot thread, post some comments on the story as
well. What did you think of the fic?

penance for this spam) http://www.akane.org/gary/comics.html
