Sometimes I think my muse just uses me as a source of humor, reacting
to statements like that. -_-

It is the end of the 21st century, and Sailor Jupiter is among the most
revered of all superheros. Not for her heroics - not that she is any
slouch in the Champion of Justice department - but for her sheer
utility. A utility that makes her the object of near-worship, but
almost exclusively by other heros, be they asipiring, run of the mill,
or time-tested supers. A utility that stems from one power, a side
effect of those abilities the public most notices.

She makes trees.

To understand why this is so important, one has to understand the
mentality of modern heros, especially in light of the rifts opened to
other dimensions over the years and *especially* in light of the
resulting Seyruun School of Magical Justice, which today's multiversal
law enforcement corps still chooses to train its special forces. You
see, even though it has become a cliche, and even though many villains
have actually come to expect and counter it, the modern superhero is
just not the same without a dramatic entrance...and in the middle of
a blasted wasteland, or in a building where all the windows and doors
are booby trapped, there is nothing like standing amidst a tree to
announce one's presence. They even give a bit of practical benefit: a
hero can see out, but it is difficult to see in; genetic engineering has
even given these trees some resistance to bullets and flames, and the
ability to suck up gas weapons, though they tend to die shortly
thereafter.

In addition, when a tree survives, it becomes a battle marker, serving
as a presupplied tombstone for any fallen friends (most fatalities in
such battles leave no corpse, due to the extreme energies usually
involved), or a symbol for any local civilians to rally around.
Indeed, there are quite a few "tree cities", where the heros' tree was
the only fixed structure when evil was vanquished, and which thus served
as a natural town center when rebuilding commenced. Further genetic
engineering, reportedly by a friend of Sailor Jupiter's, has tweaked
these trees so that, under the right conditions, their seeds can be
molded into quick-growing buildings to provide quick shelter in such a
situation.

Which is why such great concern has been attached to the news, leaked
from government intelligence sources, that the alien power known only as
Jurai has labelled her the second greatest threat on Earth to its space
armada. One question is on everyone's lips: what's the first?
