Blinking away forming tears, Tsunami offered a shrug. "Yes," she

Misaki obviously wanted to hear. It was far easier for her to think of
her daughter dying as a sacrifice than changing in such a manner.
I wouldn't think so. Children change. Misaki would realize that, though
this
is far from the standard way. I still contend she would accept that, at
least in time.
I have no frame of reference for this -- I was disowned by my mother
so I can see it quite easily as it is. I will, however, take your word
on it and see what I can do to make it better.
Actually I've rethought this a bit. Misaki's reaction is conceivable after
all, though it could be taken either way. Since this is Tenchi OVAverse,
when Misaki first pops up she is shown that she doesn't want her daughters
to change, and both of girls realize this. Just look at Ayeka's "It's my
mommy!" act she's forced to do for Misaki's benefit. Ayeka does try acting a
proper young woman, but it's pretty obvious Misaki wants nothing to do with
it, and it's obvious from Ayeka's words she suspected this was what was
going to happen from the beginning. So what happens here with Sasami's
gestalt could be more than Misaki can accept and she's rejecting her for
these changes she doesn't want.
Now it could be also taken the other way as accepting any changes Sasami
would got through. Misaki's first reaction upon seeing Ryouko (who she
thinks is Sasami) is more one of pity for all the 'changes' she's undergone,
but affectionate at the same time.
If you want a middle ground, you can have Funaho reproach Misaki after
Tsunami is gone. Misaki can always bite back with a comment about how Yosho
turned out soooo well in accepting responsibility to Funaho's advice about
accepting changes in children and leave it at that.
Just a thought.
