The two fell into a companionable silence after that, Mitsune
leading the way to the train station, and losing herself in her
thoughts. Keitaro was right; trying to act differently was silly, but he
suggested that she was acting differently because she was in love with
him, and that couldn't be... right.... Or could it? If it was, that
meant a substantial number of problems, the least of which would be the
potentially burnt bridge with Naru. "Oh, crap," she mumbled quietly.
Falling in love with Keitaro was the _last_ thing she needed.

Again, this feels very sudden.  I don't think Mitsune would realize she's

in

love with Keitaro simply because he decided to ditch his trip to America

to

help her get into college.  She hasn't even had time to properly

appreciate

that at this point, much of her thinking is probably being focused on
getting out of the mess she's locked herself into.  There is just no

reason

for this to happen so quickly.

Actually, while rereading this email after sending it to the list, I thought
of something else that might apply here: resentment.  Mitsune is trying to
blow off this whole college thing, trying to get out of what a few careless
words managed to get her into, and Keitaro just WON'T leave her alone.
She's tried several times to dissuade him from pushing her into going to
college, giving hints, but instead of dropping it like she wants him to, he
keeps pushing and pushing....

So, this is something you might want to consider.  She was perfectly happy
to sit around doing nothing all day, and now she's being pushed into
studying, asking her parents for money, causing problems for everybody,
especially Naru and Keitaro... despite Keitaro's good intentions, she's
likely to be rather annoyed with him and resent the fact that he won't leave
her be.
