Ah, you *are* aware that you already sent this
same reply out before, right?

In any event, besides confirming that I got it, I guess I'll
respond to your responces too...

A Piggy Error

A Ranma 1/2 fanfic by June "KaraOhki" Geraci

February 24, 2002

Ranma 1/2 was created by Rumiko Takahashi, and
belongs to her. This story was written just for
fun, and not for commercial purposes. Feel free to
enjoy it, and share it.

*Okay, this wasn't one of the most brilliant ideas
I ever had, was it?*

Nice lead in. Leaves me wondering who the character
is, although I assumed that it might be either Ryoga
or someone connected to him due to the title...

I wasn't trying to make it that much of a mystery.

Still a nice lead in though.

The sound of pounding steps behind me is enough to
make me stop chastising myself and run for all I am
worth. I mustn't let him catch me. If only I had
thought this through. Given all the information I
had about the cursed ones, I should have known
better. A curse was just that--a curse, and there
was nothing fun about it.

Usually. Sometimes the cursed ones can put aside
there problems with the curses for a little while and
find a moment or two of peace, or even fun, while
in their cursed forms. Something usually comes up
to ruin this after a short while though, thus proving
that it *is* a curse...

Which leads me to wonder...

Did the deal between Genma and Nodoka to
raise Ranma to be a "man among men" actually
exist prior to Ranma becoming cursed, or did
the curse manipulate past events when it looked
like Ranma's life was settling down again?

I'm not going to touch that one!

Well that one was more or less idea fodder for anyone
willing to pick up the idea. It *does* assume that the
curses are far more powerful than previously thought
though, and even with just the power to manipulate
memories and physical elements such as supporting
evidence (much like Chibi-Usa's Luna-ball in
Sailor Moon, so the idea isn't *too* far out) rather
that actaully manipulating past events, the curses
retain the power to be *curses*, at least until they
drive their victims to be obsessive and/or sociopaths.

Which kind of explains why Ryoga only gets wet about
half as often as Ranma and actually has *fewer*
problems with his curse than his rival, even though he
hates it more. Ryoga is well underway on a path
similar to Pansuto Taro's...

Such manipulation would also explain why no one questions
contradictory events, such as Happosai being at Taro's
baptism when he was supposed to actually be seeled in a cave
by that time.

With this explanation, the curse would lose a lot of its
power if someone with a clever, analytical mind and
a strong sense of will discovered what was actually going
on, and decided to point out these inconsistancies
to the affected parties. Thus, Nabiki is kept amused
or otherwise distracted, Akane is kept annoyed to the
point where she doesn't think things through and connect
the facts (serving a two-fold perpose by also contributing
to Ranma's difficulties), and Kasumi is actually kept in
a state of serenity as much of the chaos avoids her
altogether...

Cologne would probably puzzle it out eventually if
the contradictory events happened around her too
often, so she remains on the perifery, even though her
great-granddaughter is one of the afflicted...

He is approaching the tracks, the light of triumph
and desire in his eyes. Now I can no longer see
him. The train has come between us. I quickly
look down the tracks. It is a very long train. I
cannot see the end of the line of cars. This will
give me time to get far ahead of him. I run on,
and once again I berate myself for my foolishness.

At this point I still had no idea who either of the
two were. Wonderful hook...

Thank you!!

You're welcome.

^_^

"I hate this curse!"

This wasn't something I hadn't heard before. An
adorable black pig had shown up at my door, and as
always I had brought him inside and run a warm bath
for him. When my love emerged from the bathroom,
he was human again, and quite depressed. All of my
efforts to cheer him up were a waste of time, and
he soon wandered off and got lost again.

And now, finally, I realize that this is Akari, and
I wonder if Ryoga was the one chasing her...

If you only knew...

Well, I *did* read the story. But the comment is
fitting for my first time through.

^_^

Evidently the guide knew what I was thinking,
because he brought me home and held me up in front
of a mirror. Then my fear turned to great joy. I
had fallen into the same spring as my love! Now we
had something to share! My intentions of bringing
a cure home to Ryoga vanished.

It's a good thing that the Spring of Little Black Pig
isn't gender specific...

Yup!

Personally, I'm amazed that she made it home without
encountering the same problems that Ryoga had
with travelling in Asia as a small food animal...

In order to make Akari thing she had been blessed rather than cursed, it
was necessary for her to be trouble-free until she got splashed at home.
Otherwise, she either would have turned around and cured herself, or she
would have been ultra-careful at home. Obviously, this would not fit in
with the story I intended to write.

Naturally. In the main story, some cursed individuals
simply have less problems with their curse than others.

"Be good, Katsunishiki, and watch the house for me.
I won't be gone long." I patted my pet pig on the
head and headed for the front door. Several things
happened at once. The phone rang, Katsunishiki ran
between me and the door, and I tripped over him.
He always did hate it when I left him alone.

Katsunishiki is *HUGE*! How could she trip over him?
Bump into him and lose her balance I can see, but
fall *over* him?

She's a klutz!

Okay, I'll buy that...

I squealed my agreement at the answering machine
and began to turn toward the door. Then I began to
sense some sort of danger. I whirled, and found
myself nose to nose with Katsunishiki. He was
sniffing at me in the oddest way, and for some
reason it made me shiver. I backed away, and he
followed. Then my pig senses informed me of
something. My pet had just realized that I was not
only a pig, but a female one, and he had something
on his mind that made me feel physically ill.

Pig sense...

Not to be mistaken for spider sense, but just
as important if you ever find yourself in a
situation when you really nead it...

err...

It's a joke. And apparently not a good one either...

^_^;;

 snippage

And lots of it in this responce too!

^_^

He doesn't listen. He is completely focused on me,
and tries to get around Ryoga. The next thing I
know, my sumo pig is out cold, thanks to Ryoga's
umbrella. He leaves the pig lying there to tend to
Akane, who is dazed and crying.

Was Akane actually hit?

No, she's just very upset.

Okay.

The furo is full. I leap in, and am myself again.
Ryoga collapses with a nosebleed. I take the
opportunity to grab his backpack and borrow some of
his clothing. Then I tend to my boyfriend.

Follows the Shampoo School of Boyfriend Management,
does she?

Sure, doesn't everyone???

Well, Akane tries not to...

^_^

"Akari? When did you get here? And why have you
started dressing like Ryoga?"

Most likely said by Akane...

Yes, I'll make that clearer

Okay.

"Where did the little pig go?"

Ryoga reddens a little. "I don't know. I guess
she wandered off."

Nabiki: "Definitely a good match for P-chan then."

Heh. Too bad she's not there

Not that her presence, or lack of it, would hurt
this story either way. No need to explain why she
isn't there, as she often has her own agenda
elsewhere.

My boyfriend holds very tightly to my hand as we
leave the house. We walk in silence for a few
blocks, and then he stops. "What the hell is going
on?" He doesn't sound angry. He does sound very
confused, and more than a little upset.

Wouldn't anyone whose girlfriend was nearly
raped by a pig?

Absolutely

I would tend to think so as well, although some
of the other comments to this part leads me to
wonder if some people didn't get what was
actually going to happen if Akari's pet caught
up with her...

^_^;;

Very nice story. An excellent short piece.

I'm glad you liked it, and thank you for the comments!

And, once again, you're welcome!
