The way it Gin wrote it originally makes sense, if a little bit of a mental
twister.
Brians suggestion is clear if the sentence was stand alone, but it disrupts
the flow into Ranma's thoughts.
I would suggest moving the not onto was.  "Kunou wasn't invited because he
was Akane's choice..."
I realize I've probably muddied the waters more than helped.  Oh well.
