-Chapter Four (part 1)-

-Regarding Dahlia and the Laguna GF-

Laguna Loire swung over Squall's head, performing Desperado
upon a new Boss who had all but overcome the young SeeD.

This Boss, Dahlia was a twisted woman who claimed to be the daughter
of the Sorceress Adel. Even worse, she claimed to be Squall's
half-sister, conceived by the theft of Laguna's seed.

Dahlia was weakened by the Deperado attack, but still had enough
strength to withstand Squall's next attack. "Did you think I could be
so easily defeated, my brother?"

"I will never accept you as my sister," Squall told her. "You are not
worthy to call yourself a member of my family."

"And what of yourself, dear brother," Dahlia asked. "Are you worthy
of your family name?"

Squall hurled a series of lightning bolts at Dahlia, The first few deflected
off of her shield, the middle few were absorbed and the last three hit
their target.

"Damn it," Dahlia glared, staggering to her feet. If she was going
down, she would take Squall with her.

Squall saw what she was up to and whispered "Desperado" as
he clutched the dogtags in his hand.

Dahlia heard the click of the grenade pin and decided
it was time to go. She closed her eyes and vanihsed
seconds before the grenade went off.

Squall stood back, catching his breath. Whoever the
girl was, he had to learn more about her. She had enough
power to be dangerous. And didn't believe for a second
that she had been destroyed.

He had to get back to Esthar right away, to warn the
others and to speak with Ellone. Dahlia had claimed Laguna
was her father. He didn't believe her, but he couldn't risk being
wrong. If she was Adel's and Laguna's daughter, she might have
powers similar to Ellone's.

But then why hadn't Ultimecia used her? Why use Ellone when
Dahlia might be stronger? The answer was simple, Ellone could be
controlled.. With Dahlia, Ultimecia might end up having to confront
a rival with powers that matched her own. The child of a sorceress
and a sorcress hunter would have powers that could control the
world. Maybe even the universe.

*****

"Any word," Cid Kramer looked up as his wife walked into the
headmaster's office.

"Nothing," Edea sounded troubled. "And I'm still getting that
nagging feeling in my mind that something's not right."

The windows blew in, glass shattering everywhere. It was only
Edea's shield that saved her and her husband from being ripped
to shreds.

"Are you all right, Cid?"

Cid nodded, then looked up to see what had caused the windows
to implode.

The girl who stood before them had long dark hair worn in a style
remniscent of Laguna's and Ellone's. She smiled, though her eyes
held none of Laguna's kindness. Nor were they Laguna's eyes.

"What business have you here?" Edea asked. "Why have you come
back, Adel?"

"I am not Adel," the woman smiled. "Surely as a former sorceress you
must know that. I am Dahlia, the daughter of the Sorceress Adel and
the Sorceress Hunter, Laguna."

"Laguna was the father of only two children, Squall and Ellone. He
had nothing to do with your birth."

Ellone walked in at that moment.

"Ellone, get out!" Cid warned.

"Now now... is that any way to treat a girl whose come to see
her sister?" Dahlia went over to Ellone and smiled. "Aren't you
happy to see me?"

"No, nor do I believe you are my sister. The claims of a liar mean
nothing to me. I know my father would not lay with Adel. You must
think me a fool to say that this is so."

"Check if you don't believe me," Dahlia smiled as she vanished. "We
both know you can."

Ellone ran to the door reaching it jjust as Squall was running in.

"Squall, I need you again. We must link to father's past. I want to
find out if that bitch is telling the truth."

"I know she isn't. Father would never do such a thing. Let's go see
the past, though. We'll prove her wrong."

Squall lie on his back on the sofa while Edea and Cid turned down
the lights and locked the door. Ellone whispered her chant and soon
Squall was asleep.

*****

Squall's eyes opened onto darkness. His concsciousness soon
realized he was in Laguna's mind again. ~Wake up, Laguna,~
he pleaded. ~Just wake up!"

Laguna's mind struggled to regain full awareness. Physical
awareness as well as auditory and sensory perception floated
around disconnectedly.

Squall could feel Laguna's body moving, hear his mind's panic
as a woman's voice whispered words that drifted in and out.
Another sensation drifted on the periphery of awareness. Laguna
did not seem to notice it, oddly enough, though Squall was aware
of it.

Squall blushed in embarrassment. Laguna probably didn't want a
visit from the faeries right now. On the other hand, Laguna didn't
even seem to notice that a woman was having sex wtih him.

A moment later, Squall felt Laguna sit up. He seemed troubled
as he walked into the bathroom. In the time it took for Laguna to
have a nice hot shower, he had convinced himself that his
abduction and rape had been a mere nightmare brought about
by stress and lingering self-doubts.

*****

Squall woke and found Ellone sitting beside him on the sofa. "You
started screaming so I woke you. I saw what happened."

"It's true," Squall told her. "Adel dishonored our father in the worst
way possible."

"And now the child of that union has come to claim her father's
place as the President of Esthar."

"Father won't allow it,"

"Squall," Ellone told her little brother, "he's dead. He can't stop it."

Taking out the dogtags, Squall whispered, "Desperado."

Once more the new GF swung into action. He made his attack,
then vanished at the end of his attack with his usual departing
wave.

Cid and Edea watched with stunned expressions on their faces.

"No human being has ever become a GF," Cid told Squall. "I
don't know how this could havehappened."

"Perhaps the dream connection has something to do with it,"
Edea suggested. "You were linked to your father already, so
perhaps..."

Squall turned away, "None of that matters now," he told them.
"All that does matter is that I have to fight my sister. I can't let
her destroy all we've worked to accomplish."

"Perhaps there is another way," Edea offered.

"There is no other way," Squall argued. "She is Adel's
daughter!" he stormed out of the room, slamming the
door behind him.

"She's Laguna Loire's daughter, too." Edea said,
simply, though Squall was no longer there to hear it.
