Not to much I would think. The bulk of listians here are pretty open minded. 
A few purists might object, but that's to be expected.

Anyways. To answer your question. If I remember the dub correctly, Mei Lin 
was introduced as a friend of Li's from Hong Kong. They trained together in 
the Martial Arts, which was what enabled them to defeat the...I believe it 
was the Twin card. Anyways, the dub passed the engagement off as Mei Lin 
having a crush on Li and I don't believe anything beyond that was mentioned.
