After the initial blast, the danger is the fallout, which depends on the
current wind patterns. If Ranma and co. were lucky the wind would be
blowing it out to sea. If they were not, the wind could have carried the
radioactive particles around Ranma's shield and irradiated the landscape
around them. It would be worst if the winds happened to be blowing in
the direction of their travel.

Though it only works for locations in the US, the Nuclear Blast Mapper
[http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/bomb/sfeature/mapablast.html] might be
helpful in visualizing the scale of the effect from this. It generates
one of three maps: one for pressure damage from a 1-megaton blast; one
for fallout from the same; one for pressure damage from a 25-megaton
blast. The fallout map might be the most useful here; of course, none of
this would be useful at all except as something from which to
extrapolate for the locations we're working with.

Actually, now that I look at it it may well work for non-US locations;
regardless, you might give it a shot.
