what had once been widely considered as the center of the Solar
System, detailing the damage as he came to it.  "Grand Pavilion,
gone.  Wishing Tower, toppled.  The Palace...crumbled.  Beryl and
Metallia were thorough, I'll give them that much.  Hmmm, the main
courtyard is still intact."

Is 'Solar System' a proper noun? I'd think Alpha Proxima would be,
but 'the solar system' wouldn't...

    'Solar system' would be the proper way.  'Sol' is the latin name for our
sun, thus 'Solar system' means 'Sol's system of planets, moons, and other
orbiting objects'. In general, people use it as a sweeping term for any star
system, but that's actually incorrect.  'Solar system' refers specifically
to _our_ little family of planets and such. When referring to another star's
system, 'planetary system' is another term that is used.

         He walked through the destruction until he reached his
goal:  the Throne Room.  Or rather, what was left of it.  The
destruction was almost total.  The only thing that remained were a
few of the pillars that once lined the walls.  Nemesis slowly made
his way towards one that had snapped off and was resting at an
angle on the broken base.  He stopped a small distance from it.

    It can be done that way, but a comma serves the purpose too. It's kind
of optional.

         Ami's fingers flew over the keyboard.  "Well, there are
extreme amounts of bruising on both of them.  Haruka has a broken
nose and several green fractures on her ribs.  Michiru has
several green fractures as well, along with a broken tailbone.
Other than that they're fine.  No permanent damage whatsoever."

Green fractures are very rare outside of young children, aren't they?

    The proper term is 'greenstick fracture'. And it's a condition in which
the bone is only cracked or broken partway through, instead of completely
broken. It happens in adults fairly often-- speaking from my own experience,
I had a job that involved me banging an object against another object a lot.
Sometimes I'd miss and hit my fingers against it instead, so I got bone
bruises or greenstick fractures that way.  They tend to heal pretty quickly,
but they can be very painful... not so much in and of themselves, but if you
apply pressure to them somehow, ouch!
