the deaths of Soun and Genma...

far past the age which her county regarded as proper, that she did not
uphold the belief that women should marry young, be the support for
their man and cleaner of his house for all of their life and dare not
aspire to anything more... Her attitude gained her nothing. The Elderly
thought her a menace, while the young thought her to be a symbol for
women's rights. In truth, she was neither, only going through the
motions of living, all the while waiting for the one to whom she had
been promised. And he had not yet come.
*BZZZZ* Wrong. Unless Akane is 30, she is far from "spinster." Marriage
before 25 is marrying early.. usually because you got pregnant or for some
reason decided to marry your "high school sweetheart" and skip college.
Marriage at 25-27 is normal for women.... beyond that is when they start to
get worried and go "man hunting."
What Akane could be considered is weird... "Why don't you get a boyfriend?"
"So what if you're promised... no one said you have to marry that guy you go
out with..." Etc. However, be sure to note that there are still plenty of
women in Japan who don't seriously date until they have started working
(20-22 yrs old). Of course like everywhere younger gen of kids are doing
more at a younger and younger age, but generally the "black-hair" girls are
"majime" (serious) and don't follow that path. The "brown-hair" and "blond
hair" girls are generally called "gyaru" and....let's just say they are the
more wild types... Take a guess as to which Akane is...
And he found himself there, standing with the page from the
telephone directory in one hand, the fingers of the other tracing the
worn Kanji on the wooden sign next to the main gate, proclaiming the
house as home to the Tendou school of Anything Goes Martial Arts. He
moved it to the side slightly, and it pivoted freely on the small metal
peg that held it to the wall. The segment of wall underneath was less
weathered than the wall surrounding it. Interest raised, the young man
pulled on the sign gingerly, it coming free with surprising ease, having
been designed to do so.
Now there is a problem with this... namely that everyone in Japan knows that
you can't find a place by the address. Of course you are saying "What the
hell are you talking about??!" Here it is... Japanese cities are not
organized like western cities in general (Sapporo and Sendai being two
exceptions). VERY few roads have names. Addresses are based on
region/area. For example... Tokyo-to, Ota-ku Oomori Honcho 1-2-5.
Tokyo-to is Tokyo Metropolitan (the prefecture), Ota-ku is the ward of
Tokyo, and Oomori Honcho is the banchi (number block/area) within the ward.
You may have Oomori Honcho 1 through 6... here we are at 1. Within area 1,
we are looking for block 5, and on that block the 5th building to be built.
No idea about that one eh? If it's an office building, you likely can walk
around and find it.. if not... you could be at it all day and still not find
it. To sum all that up.... Ranma would have to stop and ask
directions..probably from the Police box or get the from Akane...
