I'm following the format of the Harry Potter books where mysteries are
revealed over
the course of the story. Why the characters are the way they are will come
out
during the course of the story, if there is a story.

It will also give me a chance to gently break the Ranma cast to the Harry
Potter fans.

My insidious plot is to addict them to the Ranma series. ^_^

Oh, you sneaky bastard! Evil! Evil!

Sounds like Ranma is cured of his curse somehow, or at
least I'm guessing that is what the red hair symbolizes(unless, of
course,
Ranma is misidentified when he's said to be a boy),

With an apparent age of 11, how easily could you tell a girl from a boy if
they
were dressed as the other gender.

Yeah, I'm aware of that possibility, but enough things seem different that
Ranma's being cured could also be the case.

 but how that happened
while making Shampoo be stuck as a cat,

Is she?

Well, it seems a bit odd that Cologne would say that Ranma and Akane were
her students, yet have Shampoo go along with Kasumi, for Kasumi's
protection, apparently... Also, the question that must be asked is, 'Why is
Kasumi going to Hogwarts?' There are certainly other schools out there, and
I would certainly expect there to be at least one school in Japan, so my
guess is that there is something going on that would put Kasumi in danger,
otherwise it doesn't make sense for them to be worried about her. Something
else which really needs to be answered at some point is why Kasumi is going
to Hogwarts NOW, rather than the first time she was 11 years old. You said
that they are all 11 years old because of a plot device which comes from
Ranma canon, and unless I completely missed something, that could only be
the mushrooms of aging (although Wishbringer is a possibility...), but the
mushrooms certainly wouldn't cause the newly chibified Kasumi to suddenly
have the ability to become a wizard... so why wasn't her ability picked up
on earlier? That really needs to be answered...

So, Cologne was brought to Hogwarts as an instructor, she wanted to bring
Ranma along as her student for some reason, and Akane just tagged along...
We'll need to know why Kasumi is going to Hogwarts rather than a school
local to Japan, and why Shampoo is going as Kasumi's cat rather than as an
extra student of Cologne's (if Cologne could get Ranma and Akane accepted as
her students, I really don't see her being unable to do the same for
Shampoo)...

as well as Ranma's lack of a
reaction to said cat,

That is not suppose to be the case. If I take this up for real I'll have
to
expand this section, and
make sure that it is clear that Ranma is making sure there is always
someone between him and
Shampoo. As well as having him/her behaving in a very nervous manner.

Ah, okay.

So there are a number of
things that this teaser makes me wonder about, which is a good thing, I
think.

That was the idea. I wanted people going. "What the Heck!"

Well, it worked. :)

Something that is disgustingly common among Harry Potter fics is having
new
students show up to interract with the Harry Potter cast, like what is
happening here with Kasumi,

That is a bit unfair. Every Harry book brings in new characters, and
teachers.
Sometimes they are simply older students from other houses, or ones that
were not
mentioned before, or they are younger students like Ron's little sister.

So I would say it is canon to bring in a small number of students and a
teacher.
Care to guess what Job Cologne was tagged for? ^_^

Actually, Ron's little sister was one of the first people introduced. She
was certainly introduced before Hermione. She was at the train station when
Harry arrived for the first time.

By saying new characters that show anp to interract with the Harry Potter
cast, I was referring more to the transfer student cliche, or the mystery
kid who has great powers that simply never came to Hogwarts when he/she was
11 like everybody else and instead arrives in Harry's 5th or sometimes 7th
year cliche... Those are very, very common among HP fics. There's nothing
really wrong with that, but it's annoying that nobody writes fics where the
new student shows up at the same time as everybody else, or the new student
(in fics) is just somebody from a different house that Harry would never
have run into, which would be perfectly reasonable as well--after all, they
have classes as a house thing, the Gryffindor's are usually all together,
with the only exceptions being Potions and broomstick flying with Slytherin,
iirc.

Well, Cologne as the DADA teacher could be interesting... Of course, you've
already said that Cologne doesn't know magic, so I'm not sure how that would
really work, unless DADA is expected to include non-magical lessons that
would be appropriate to the class subject as well. She could easily just be
the instructor for some kind of self-defense class, in addition to having
somebody else who was new teach traditional defense against the dark arts.

especially since you're bringing Ranma, Colonge, and Akane along for the
ride. I'm hoping to not see TOO much interraction between the Ranma
characters and Harry's trio, since they're seperated by a number of years
and it seems unlikely, but at least a certain amount of it wouldn't be
too
much of a stretch.

The school has houses, so while the characters would not have classes
together, they
would be in the Common room together, and they could interact outside of
class.

While that is true, 11 year olds and 15 year olds probably wouldn't have
much in common, would they? Even if they are all wierd in different ways.

Speaking of which. I was thinking Kasumi would fit in Hufflepuff?

Input desired and appreciated.

Actually, I think Kasumi would fit better in Slytherin, but I have a much
different view of her character than most people seem to. All those
sarcastic comments delivered with an innocent expression... bleh. She's
faking, I know it.

it's possible that the Ranma cast and the friends they make would be
having
an adventure in parallel with
Harry, but not with him. And not the same adventure. I have a feeling
Harry is going to be dealing with some serious
stuff in book five, and I'm not that ambitious. I think just dealing with
Hogwarts, and wizards could be fun to a certain extent.

That would probably be best, IMO, with this setup. I really don't see too
much interraction with Harry and the others as working out very well here.

Of course one major plot thread is going to be the fact that Dumbledore
has
brought three non-wizards into the school.
One of them as a teacher.

Four, counting Shampoo, unless she really IS stuck.

I should mention this was inspired by the end of book four where he sent
Hagrid off to talk to the Giants, and where he said that
they had to reach out to non-wizards in order to stand up to Voldemort.

Then I got thinking about the components of your RPG quests.

you have Wizard/Warrior/thief/hero/cleric/barbarian.

I didn't try to fill all the roles, but it works a bit like this.
Ranma is a Hero.
Kasumi is a cleric
Akane is a Barbarian
Shampoo is a Warrior/thief, depending on form.

Harry of course is the Wizard. Not that I intend to follow that formula
nessesarily, it's just one of the things that formed this story.

Well, I don't know about that RPG thing... Although the Akane as a Barbarian
thing is cool. I really like that. :)

I should probably get more work done on plotting my own Ranma/HP idea
out.
Wonder if we'll be seeing this crossover becoming as common as Ranma/SM
stories as time goes by... ^_^;

hheheheheheehehehe
could be. I expect to see a bunch of fusions. but as I said, I prefer
crossovers.

Fusions seem to be rather rediculous most of the time, but that's just a
personal opinion. Crossovers keep the original characters intact a lot
better, at least for me, while fusions (if done properly) make changes that
make them different to a much greater extent so that it just doesn't FEEL
like the same people anymore. *shrugs*

Anyway, write it! :)
