Prelude

It is cruel, you know, that music should be so
beautiful. It has the beauty of loneliness and of
pain: of strength and freedom. The beauty of
disappointment and never-satisfied love. The cruel
beauty of nature, and everlasting beauty of monotony.
~ Benjamin Britten ~
******************************************

	His head hurt.

He hated that; he simply couldn't believe that he
hadn't been smart enough to avoid the truck that had
been coming his way, smart enough to not simply stare
into the headlights, fascinated by the way they were
drawing closer and closer.

He ran a hand over his chest, surprised. There were
no bruises, no cuts or bandages, and his skin was
smooth. Leaning back into the pillows of the bed,
he inhaled the fresh scent of the linens. They were
scented with a bizarre mixture of lavender, cloves and
something else he couldn't name- perhaps a brand of
soap he was unused to. They didn't smell like
something that belonged in the hospital, and they
lacked the scent of Mika's perfume that tended to
cling to their sheets at their numerous homes. She
preferred sweet fragrances, which was a surprise

So I'm not home, obviously. Then where the hell did
I end up?

He sat up slowly, careful not to jaw himself. His
balance was off, and he wondered where he was. Had
Yuki and Shuichi brought him home? Maybe Noriko? Or,
heaven forbid, Ryuuichi? If God has any mercy, it's
not Ryuuichi, he thought. I love Ryuuichi dearly,
but... I don't know if I can handle his exuberant
innocence right now....

His head hurt even more, something he hadn't believed
possible, at the very thought of dealing with either
Ryuuichi or Shuichi. Shuichi would have Yuki to
temper him somewhat, but Ryuuichi only would have that
silly stuffed rabbit, and there was no way Kumagurou
was going to be able to defend him from an overly
affectionate tackle-hug. He loved them the way he
would have younger brothers or affectionate puppies,
but when he hurt, he really didnt think even his
amazingly patient personality could take either rock
star.

And he shuddered at the thought that this was Ks
home. The last thing he needed at the moment was for
the blonde manager to come in, firing off a few shots
to motivate him to get up. Though they had been
friends for years, he still hadnt been able to
persuade K that his guns werent welcome.

The very idea was enough to get him moving. He
didnt want to hear the explosive Magnums go off by
his ear, and the more he thought about it, he realized
that K was the one who had been most likely to
retrieve him, since Mika wasnt here. She would have
waited. Gingerly he turned around on the mattress,
setting his feet on the floor. The floor was cold
beneath his bare feet, and he glanced about the room,
hoping to find a pair of slippers.

	No luck.

With a sigh he stood up, deciding to suffer, and
walked into the next room, his eyes widening as he
looked around. He still didnt recognize the place,
and there was something subtly wrong with the place.
His instincts told him that this was merely a place to
sleep, not to call home.

So where am I? None of my friends would have
brought me here

He didn't recognize the man sitting in the chair, so
he took a moment to study him. His hair was pulled
back in a braid that was draped casually over the
chairs arm, and he was flipping idly through a Bible,
a red pen in his hand. Every now and then he'd
scribble something in the margins, cross other things
out, and mutter under his breath as he flipped through
the pages, going forward and backwards with no
apparent pattern. He was wearing a clerical collar of
a Christian sect, and together with his dark black
clothes, that made his braid appear very unorthodox.

A priest of some kind, perhaps? Catholic, Anglican?

The man -boy- looked up at him with lavender eyes
that reminded him of Shuichi when he cleared his
throat to announce his presence. Youre up! Good!
We were really worried- well, I was worried, and I
think Trowa was, but its hard to tell with him, you
know. Wufei seems to think you were an idiot, and
Heero- who can tell what Heero's thinking? Anyway,
how are you feeling? The boy jumped to his feet,
tossing aside the bible carelessly, and threw his arms
around him.

	Confused

Thats natural, another voice said. It came from
a dark Chinese boy who came over to stand next to the
chair that had been abandoned moments before. Behind
him trailed two other boys, one with green eyes and an
gravity-defying hairdo, while the other appeared to be
Japanese, though his blue eyes hinted at some other
ancestry bred into his lines.

	Natural? he said.

Concussion, the Chinese boy said. Maxwells been
taking care of you. He snorted. As unbelievable as
it is, he didnt kill you accidentally. Trowa and I
would have, but weve been repairing Heavyarms and
Shenlong.

Oi, Wufei! Be nice! the boy who still was holding
onto him said. I know how to take care of people!

Now my question is why didnt you dodge that laser?
You froze- Ive never seen you freeze like that,
Wufei said dirrectly to him, ignoring the other boys
indignant protest.

Laser? This was getting more and more surreal.
I thought I thought it was a car he said.

A car? Wufeis voice was incredulous.

A bright light was coming at me and he trailed
off, focusing on the boy who still had him wrapped in
a lose hug. "Who are you?" he wondered aloud,
staring into the violet eyes that were inches from his
own. He pulled away slightly, uncomfortable with the
touch of the stranger.

"Quatre?" the boy with the long braid asked, looking
at him with concern. "I'm Duo, your friend. Are you
ok?" Duo released him and stepped back, nibbling on
his lip nervously.

Who's Quatre? he thought to himself, wondering why
the world had lost all coherency. Suddenly a
frightening thought occurred to him. "What's today's
date?"

"April 26," the green-eyed one said, speaking for the
first time.

He rubbed his temples, trying to ease his
disorientation. "I thought it was July 13," he said.
"This is not good. This is very, very not good."
Ive apparently lost quite a chunk of time.

"I'll say," one of them said. "You and I have a
mission tomorrow."

"Heero, that is the least of our worries! Quat's
lost over eight months!"

The Japanese boy spoke, apparently the afore
mentioned Heero. That is irrelevant. We need to
get to the Federation base and get into their systems,
and Quatre is the only other person aside from myself
with the necessary skills. We can worry about the
missing memories later.

Skills? he found himself echoing. By now the other
four boys had fastened worried eyes on him, and he
felt panic, an emotion he was unaccustomed to, rise in
him.

You are something of a genius when it comes to
computers, Heero said.

I can barely turn one on! Im a musician! he found
himself protesting. I must have fallen down Alices
rabbit hole. God help me! What the hell is going on
here?

Heero, we CANT send him! Duo protested. His
wits are so addled he doesnt even know who he is!

I know who I am! he protested. My name is Touma.
Seguchi Touma. I'm the President of NG Records...."
he trailed off.

Heero, though, had the courtesy to address him
directly. "No, you aren't," the one who the others
had called Heero stated firmly. "You're Quatre
Raberba Winner, heir to the Winner Estates of L4, and
Gundam pilot."

END PRELUDE
Not sure exactly where this is going, or if I'm even
going to bother continuing it. I write a LOT of
Gundam Wing, and even the enticing idea of Touma stuck
as Quatre might not be enough to keep this going.
Still, it's kind of fun to through out my strict
"canon" of Sainan no Kekka to concentrate on something
a little more fun (but hopefully just as good!).
