Got another idea for a ballade just as I posted the first. The theme is
hardly original, but, well. At least it rhymes. Criticism and other
comments much appreciated.

Brief explanation: A ballade consists of three long verses and one short,
all rhymed in a certain way and ending with the same line. (To be really
correct, it's supposed to use just three sets of rhymes throughout the
whole poem. But that's too hard for me, so I cheat.) The last verse,
called the envoi, always begins with a term of address, often to someone
in authority.

Ballade as a request for time off

In school today, there was a spot of trouble;
Miss Hinako was suffering from gout,
Two guys ran up - first Kuno, then his double,
The girls all claimed I acted like a lout,
And there was spooky magic stuff about.
The Principal was chortling with elation,
And pelted us with rotten sauerkraut.
I think that I'm in need of some vacation.

Shampoo turned up, and leaped in odd cadences,
Because her bike had just become possessed,
It whirled and pounced and wouldn't go on fences,
Took all the ramen for itself, the pest;
It seemed the only way to make it rest,
Meant putting on an ugly pink creation,
And charm the demon back into its nest.
I think that I'm in need of some vacation.

This afternoon I fought a new opponent,
And, while I figured out a way to win,
It might have looked like I was down one moment,
That tomboy picks this moment to butt in;
And I must fight like hell to save her skin.
She's always in some sticky situation,
When I'm around, and danger rears its fin.
I think that I'm in need of some vacation.

Envoi:
Now, Mom, don't think I'm miserable or something,
Or that my heart holds any trepidation,
I am your manly son - but there's just one thing:
I think that I'm in need of some vacation...


OK, so "danger rears its fin" isn't a very good line. 
If anyone can come up with something better that still
fits, I'll be happy to replace it.
