I know a lot of anime fanfic authors pretty much don't know a lot about what
really goes on in everyday Japanese society, so every now and then I wind up
reading a scene that would somehow fit more at home in an American setting
than in Japan.

I'm not nitpicking, but I've read some really odd ideas how authors see
Japanese society and how they think Japanese people act. ^_^

The daily events that happen in Japan and how the Japanese view the world is
very unique so, if you would like to add a bit of fluff when you write
background or descriptive scenes, I found an online newspaper called
Mainichi Daily News: http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/waiwai/index.html

I think you'll find it odd and entertaining what the Japanese consider
newsworthy.
