One word.
Deep.
Ok, maybe several other words.
I'll be the first to admit my knowledge of Ranma is lacking, however, even
despite my lack of knowledge, the story was very compelling. A single scene,
but it had its price, on everyone, many of them are going to be long term
effects.
Akane wondering if Ranma's reaction at him asking was a bit overboard, even
if she didnt feel the same way about him. Kuno feeling bitter hatred for
Ranma who "unmanned" him at a far deeper level than he ever did. Ranma
perhaps having worries about how far he went in the fight against Kuno. Even
Nabiki seems affected, though how long it'll take for it to really sink in
was another issue. Lots of potential long term effects, for everyone.
You did however make Nabiki seem rather cold, even her view about him being
pathetic right at the end. As I don't know Ranma 1/2 very well I can't
comment on how accurate this is to the character of course, just my
observations.
As to Ranma, he did seem a bit possessive, perhaps too much so. More
potential problems in the future. Gee, I'm setting one single scene up for a
massive story, arent I with all the potential changes as one character
stands up, takes a risk and ends up paying for it.
As to Gosunkugi, frankly while he ended up as the victim, he seemed in ways
far stronger than Ranma and his potentially possessive attitude(at least in
this story), or Kuno and his obsessive behavior toward Akane. He seemed
stronger than both of them, as he tried, and when he failed, he accepted
defeat gracefully, with dignity to a degree(ok, so he blew up at Kuno, what
member of the cast hasnt wanted to say such things to him?) Maybe to some
japanese, he lost face. However, he to a degree gracefully accepted his
defeat, was humbled by it, and in the process learned from it. He wasnt the
pathetic creature that Nabiki seemed to think he is.
Be interesting to see the shockwaves and aftereffects of this single scene.
For all the characters, even Gosunkugi as he tries to find a new life, that
as well could be interesting.
