It might help to point out that "Anonymous Coward" is the default
name used in the posting board code.  It's a SslashCod thing for
those who have never been to Slashdot and as they are the authors
(AFAIK) of that software they can set the defaults to whatever they want.

I am currently setting up a slashcode board and until reading this
post would never have thought of having to change the defaul setting
for anonymous posting.

I now go back to lurking.
