I have to agree with Alan on this one because of
the Challenge request, but I'm still cranky by the
fact that SilverKnight-or-something got his fic
banned because he overlooked a rule-or-something.
I don't know what, but I have to say, WE ALL MAKE
MISTAKES.
Just ease up on the guy.
Let me be absolutely, finally clear, before I put a decisive end to this as
a public thread.
Quicksilver Knight made two mistakes. The first was posting the challenge
story in the first place, which was minor and set off the [Admin] post from
Gary (which was not specifically targeted at Quicksilver Knight). His
story was not banned (this would require us to be capable of time travel,
something we are still working on). No penalty was given to him
specifically.
This was, as I said, a minor mistake, and something the admin team, had the
issue gone no further, would have been perfectly happy to simply let slide.
The second mistake, not so minor, was deciding that Gary's [Admin] post was
a personal attack upon him, and publicly posting to this list that this was
so as part of his off-topic departure message. This is what required me to
spend a chunk of my time today dealing with the matter both publicly and
privately, in terms of making a lengthy [Admin] post of my own on the
matter and writing some private replies to various people.
Had Quicksilver Knight not chosen to go after Gary publicly (both
personally and as a moderator) as part of his departure message, I would
not have had to step into the matter myself. This would not have become
"one, confusing, screwed up, petty bullpoop" without Quicksilver Knight's
actions in trying to turn the matter into a public fight between himself
and a member of the admin team.
Thus, I would see no particular reason to "ease up on the guy" if he were
still a member of the list (which he is not, of his own decision). There
are not many things that make the admin team less happy than public
admin-baiting, as it's generally something that necessitates a lengthy
public response on our part along with a large amount of private e-mail
exchange, and all because of the actions of a single member of a list that
has, at this time, close to 2500 individual e-mail subscribers.
That said, I'm doing what I hoped I wouldn't have to do and banning further
public discussion of this issue. I'm still perfectly happy to discuss
concerns with people privately, but the list has already seen more than
enough traffic over this. No further posts about it.
