In many lemons and limes (particularly Ranma, SM,
FY, GW ),
presumably heterosexual characters are often shown
exploring
homosexuality or bisexuality.

Ranma lends itself (or himself) to homosexual pairings
- Ranma-chan flirts with boys something awful, Akane's
hostility to boys is all-too-easily stretched to cover
the entire gender, Ukyou LIVES as a male, Ryouga falls
for the slightly disguised Ranma-chan on a regular
basis, etc. It's terribly easy to construe
homosexuality into the characters.

In GWing, the production staff have admitted that yaoi
elements were deliberately introduced into the series
to snag that particular market, and that the
heterosexual pairings were deliberately left vague and
unemphasized. The director states that he doesn't
handle romance very well, so he tried not to have very
much of it in the show. Of course, the yaoi fans have
jumped on this to show that the characters aren't
straight. (As if gay couples are not every bit as
romantic as straight couples.)

And in SM and FY, we have characters who are
homosexual in canon (Haruka and Michiru in SM, Nuriko
and Tomo in FY). It's not *that* great a stretch to
imagine other characters are encouraged by their
example.

Construing homosexuality into these stories isn't hard
at all.

What
would happen if
Haruka or Michiru discovered that she had sexual
feelings towards a
particular man?  How would the other react?  

Probably the same way you would if you found out YOUR
significant other was having an affair.

What if
Noriko desired
Miaka? 

Erm... he did. Post episode 24, Nuriko acknowledges
that Hotohori only feels friendship for him and he
turns away... only to fall head over ears for Miaka.
It's shoujo, of COURSE it's angsty.  

Would Juri ever have a fling with Touga?

Go buy the manga, being published by Viz. In the
manga, Juri is in love with Touga.
