And as to Ranma succumbing to
hormones and kissing Nabiki and/or Kuno... Don't you
ever remember
letting your genitalia do the thinking and doing
something massively
stupid, like kissing the wrong girl (or guy, if
that's your bag. I
ain't judging) when you _knew_ no good would come of
it? Doing
stupid, hormone-driven stuff it the stock-in-trade of
teenagers. God
knows i've done dumb stuff like that in the past and
lived to regret
it, but I don't think it's made me into a bad or
maladjusted person. I
think. ~_^

Yup, done the dumb stuff. Still do--I'm a slow
learner, I guess. It's
normal, and real--though again I maintain a stolen
kiss is somewhat
different from what Nabiki did to Ranma in the shower.
But the big
difference is: I'm just some ordinary dude from a shit
north-Ontario
town
who's lived a very normal life. I've never killed a
god to save a
woman I
love, nor cried to the heavens when I thought her
dead, nor felt the
debilitating joy as despair is unexpectedly
transformed to relief...
maybe a
tight ass and the smell of perfume can overcome all
that, but I can't
bring
myself to believe it. I remain far too much the
romantic, and maybe
that's
colouring my view of the entire story--it's a conceit
I'm willing to
admit.

***I dunno Mike...I'd tend to agree with that old
saying women have "all men are dogs!" Not fair, but
honestly I'd say that a lot of men do their thinking
with the wrong head...taking on your passing jibe...
our former Commander-in-Chief is a very good example.
A rich, well-educated and religious man went and had
his way with the young (but ugly) intern. NO I don't
think the equation is as simple as (horny man +
attractive woman = sex)...but everyone is
tempted...even married people and young teenagers
aren't married, nor have the same weight of
responsibilities as a married adult.

Actually, it's worse. He could have picked up the phone and arranged
something with any number of good looking girls instead of that kid, and is
married to one of the top ten lawyers in the United States. When all this
came out, I was astounded that any man could be so incredibly stupid, let
alone a President of the United States. It definitely seemed a case of the
wrong head being in charge of the show. However, he and his wife are now out
of the Whitehouse and they are still married, so I am forced to reevaluate.
Perhaps the guy knew more of what he was about than anyone likes to admit. I
have to assume he at least knew what he could and could not get away with
vis a vis his relationship with his wife.

Guys that do this sort of thing annoy me. They make all of us men look bad.
OTOH, we are all, men and women alike, a bit "doggish" in our behavior when
it comes to sex, cultural prohibitions notwithstanding. I think our real
shame lies in thinking that sex is somehow "dirty", but I also realize that
mine is the minority opinion.

Can one's body take completely over from one's mind? In Ranma's case, under
the posited circumstances of this particular yarn, I am forced to lend some
credence to the idea. However, I do agree with Mike's assessment of the
goings on at the embassy. I think the story would benefit from re-touching
that scene.

***Let's look at it this way...you're a young single
guy with a girlfriend, and this hot woman from your
office that you've been checking out daily comes on to
you in some private location. Can you say with total
certainty that there could never be anything more than
a stolen kiss?? Maybe no sex, but fondling and
groping?

***Otherwise about the lack of time spent on Akane,
and lack of progress with Ranma... I'm in total
agreement with you.

I agree with this one as well. Oddly enough, I find writing for Akane very
difficult, even though I think I understand why she does many of the things
she does in the manga. I can, therefore, easily understand why the author
might put off handling that part of the story until he himself came to grips
with Akane's character and her problems. Even so, the story would benefit
from a little more of Akane's view of these events. She has all but
disappeared at this point in the yarn. We should have some understanding of
what is holding her back at this point in the yarn, but we don't. Her
behavior is perplexing now that things have advanced this far. Her restraint
was understandable, insofar as avoiding violence in Ranma's presence, but
does she love the guy or not? Is she going to lay claim to him or not? If
so, why hasn't she done something about the competition? What's holding her
back? Is she afraid that she really is a lesbian and might trigger something
she cannot control if she shows physical affection for Ranma? Or is her fear
of gossip what holds her back? I have always thought that this is one of
Akane's deepest fears. She shies away from what she really wants because she
is afraid of what people might say.

Nabiki knows full well how the Ranma and Akane feel about one another, at
least when judged from her behavior in the manga. She does little things all
the time to belie their denials throughout the series. Takahashi uses her as
a kind of Lucifer or Loki, always picking at the uncomfortable truths that
other people don't want to admit. Is that what she is doing in this story?
Is she taunting Akane into taking action, or is she making a move to secure
her own interests? From what I have read in this story so far, it seems she
is playing for keeps.

All in all, it has been a very entertaining story and I look forward to
seeing the rest of it soon.

Regards,

Don Granberry.
