Woops.  That was a typo, I wasn't misreading it, I knew it said leeks.
That's not what came out when I wrote the message, though... o_O;

So, what about there being leeks in the soup startled Setsuna?

         LEEKS, not leeches. A leek is a cousin to the onion,
with a milder taste and longer greens. It's often used to give a
delicate flavor to soups where the use of onions would have been
too overpowering.
