It all started innocent enough. Genma, a fat balding martial artist, found a very special training manual. It was titled The Dreaded Cat Fist Technique. After skimming the manual, Genma was determined to add this to The Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial Arts.

This School is very special in that only two families in all Japan practice it. The Saotomes, Genma's family, and the Tendos. Genma, along with his friend Soun Tendo, were taught The Anything Goes by the perverted Master Haposai. It was Genma's dream to create a school that would best all others, and then retire into the easy life.

He took the manual back to the small camp he set up while he and his son Ranma were training. As soon as he reached the camp, located on the outskirts of the nearby city, he sat down and read the book in more detail.

The manual described an unbeatable technique, it gave the user energy claws and cat-like reflexes, and senses. The training method was easy, dig a pit and put a moderate amount of starved cats into the pit. Wrap the trainee from head to toe in fish sausages and then throw the trainee into the pit. The trainee will be able to leave the pit on their own power once they learn the technique. It sounded easy but unfortunately, only children under the age of six could be trained in this technique. There was more but Genma decided he wanted to get started now.

"What luck!" Genma said to himself, "Ranma just turned six, this will be the perfect technique that will make the boy unbeatable." Genma then got up and went to look for Ranma.

It's important note that if Genma had read the rest of the manual, he'd probably never would have considered going through with it. Being the improvident person that Genma is, he'd never think what throwing a child into a pit of starving cats would do to him. The manual says the warning on the last pages of the manual, the same pages Genma didn't read. This mistake would cost him his life and any hope of Ranma living a normal life.

Genma found Ranma practicing katas in a nearby field. His technique was good but a few parts were sloppy and Ganma saw all of them. He watched a few moments before approaching his son. When Ranma ended the kata about the same time Genma reached him.

"Ranma, I need to talk to you."

Ranma turned to face his father, "Yes, poppa."

Genma's contenances were copied from the many Martial Arts teachers that have taught him a lesson. He called it his wise teacher look. "You katas look generally good, but you need to clean a few parts but you're doing very good."

"I'll do better next time poppa." Ranma promised.

"No, don't worry about it now Ranma. Right now we are going to do some Strength training."

	"What am I doin'?"

"You will dig a large pit by yourself. I will give you a shovel, a basket, and rope. This will help your body grow stronger and I'll tell you when the holes big is big enough. And we'll use the pit for other training."

"Okay Poppa." The boy said happily, willing to do anything his father asked of him.

As soon as the two got back to camp, Ranma got to work. Ranma filled his basket with dirt from the hole and then put the basket on his back. He then ran at least 200 yards and interspersed the dirt in the fields by their camp. He then ran back to the pit and repeated the process. It took 3 days to turn a flat piece of ground into a commodious pit.

At the end of the third day, Ranma went down into the bottom of the pit. He had to go down by rope and as soon as he reached the bottom Genma pulled up the rope.

"Now son," Genma called, "You have three tries to get out of the pit. If you can't leave the pit on your own I'll throw down the rope."

"Okay Poppa, I'll do my best." Ranma went to one wall and ran to the other. When he got close he leapt up half the length and tried to climb out. The wall was too high and he could get a hand hold anywhere, so he slid down to the bottom. Not to be beaten, Ranma got up and tried again. He was unable to get to the top. Ranma tried one more time, but fell down again.

When Ranma fell to the bottom the third time, Genma called for Ranma to stop. He threw down the rope and brought his son up. Ranma was unhappy that he couldn't reach the top but Genma was happy. The pit was ready, now he needed some time to gather the cats.

Putting on his wise teacher face once again, he tried to cheer up his son. "Ranma, I want you not to feel bad about being unable to leave the pit. Sometimes you must try to do something that seems impossible to make yourself want to improve. That is why I think you should do some self directed training for a few weeks before we continue here. Work on your katas, you need to clean throes forms up. Now go train for a while and we'll get back to this."

"Yes poppa." Ranma's tone was unhappy and when he left, he was full of dejection.

Genma waited until Ranma was out of sight before laving the camp and going into town. He was looking for stray cats but he didn't know how many he needed. While Ranma was digging the pit, the training manual had mysteriously disappeared. Genma believed the wind carried it off, he'd look for another and would hopefully find it some day.

When Genma came into the town he bought a net from a local fishing store, and can of sardines form the market. While at the market, Genma got a few heavy canvas bags, big enough to hold a cat. As soon as he collected these items he went into a random ally. He opened the can of sardines and spread them out on the ground. Genma then went into the shadows and waited for a cat to show up.

After a few minutes, a few ally cats showed up. They cautiously went up to the sardines and sniffed one. It then bit into one and darted back to the shadows of the alley. When nothing happened, the cat came out to get a few more sardines. When it reached it a second time, Genma noiselessly sprinted across the ally and grabbed the cat. The cat clawed at it's assailant, trying to free itself but Genma threw it into a bag before it could break free.

Genma scrounged up a wooden box from somewhere and he put the cat in it. He then latched the box and hid it. Genma caught two other cats before deciding he had enough for today. Before returning to camp, Genma stopped by the hardware store and got a copious amount of boards to cover the pit with.

Ranma was still training when Genma returned, so Genma worked without distraction. He laid the boards across the pit so there was a small opening for a hatch. When Genma was done he lowered the cats into the pits.

Genma only gave the cats a small amount of food and water and each day the number of cats increased. In one week Genma had thirty cats at the bottom of the pit. He then starved the cats for three days and collected a large amount of fish sausages. On the fourth day he called his son away from his training to start learning the cat fist.

"Poppa? Why do I have to have these sausages around me?" Ranma asked as Genma finished wrapping the last of the sausages around Ranma.

"This is part of the training. This is so you can learn the unbeatable Cat Fist." Genma finished the sausages and took Ranma by the hand and led him to the covered pit. "Ranma, I know this is a difficult thing you must do but face it like a man." Ganma then opened the hatch and pushed Ranma in. "Make me proud son." is what he called after his falling child before closing the hatch.

Ranma didn't scream as he fell, he just spun in the air and landed on his feet. He was in complete darkness and it smelled terrible down here. It smelled of death and suffering. The air stank of cat. Before Ranma could think of anything else, the first cat latched on to him, tearing into the fish sausage. It clawed away at the food, and was soon was joined by others. In seconds the cats were tearing into Ranma's skin trying to free the sausages.

Ranma was soon trashing about trying to throw the cats off. He screamed ad the claws dung into his skin and tore away large parts. Blood started staining the ground as Ranma was clawed at, bitten, and scratched.

The cats soon devoured all of the sausages and got off of Ranma. Ranma didn't know when he fell over but he felt nothing but pain and fear that a cat might still be Hungary. He laid there half conscious, bleeding slightly, and crying softly.

Genma who waited until the screams of pain died down, waited a minute when the carnage stopped. He then opened the pit and lowered the basket to haul Ranma to the surface. Ranma was barely ably to crawl into the basket before falling into unconsciousness.

As Genma hauled his son out of the pit and tended his wounds, Ganma thought of what went wrong. He tried to follow the manual as close as he could remember. "Something not right." Genma told himself. "I haves a pit, starved cats, and a trainee that was wrapped in food. What could be wrong?" Genma thought about it while he made some tea that would alleviate Ranma's pain and help heal his wounds. Going over everything, Genma came to the conclusion that he must have used the wrong kind of food. Maybe if he used something different, like sardines, or fish cakes. Anything to get Ranma to learn the Cat Fist.

So during the next two weeks Genma threw Ranma into the pit every three days. Each time a failure. But unknown to both of them, Ranma was slowly changing. As he was being mauled by the cats, his mind was slowly becoming more and more feral. He caught himself licking the back of his hand and scratching his ears a lot. The change was completely physical, his body was slowly changing and it wouldn't be long before he reached the true form of the Cat Fist. A complete transformation into a hybrid cat-human.

Ranma felt the change coming and feared the pit even more. He would struggle every time his father said it was time to train. He screamed like he was being murdered each time as he felt his humanity slowly slipping away.

On the sixth attempt, Ranma snapped. Halfway into the training session, Ranma stopped screaming and started yowling. He hissed and meowed as his body suddenly changed and grew fur. He grew from two feet eight inches to three feet ten inches. He grew a tail and he was covered from head to toe with fur. His nails changed to claws and his eyes became slited. In the course of five minutes, Ranma disappeared and all that was left was a half cat, half human thing.

Genma, wondering if Ranma was done, opened the hatch. He couldn't see anything in the pit and was caught completely off guard as a black whirlwind of fur and claws exploded upward and into Genma. He didn't even have time to scream as the thing tore into his chest and gutted him. His body was knocked back and what was left of his organs sprayed everywhere. When Genma hit the ground, the black thing jumped off of him. It was Ranma, or what was left of him. This hybrid creature sat down and cleaned it's paws, slowly calming down. There was no danger anywhere and he was messy.

When it was done, it bounded off, away from the camp at tremendous speeds. Looking for a forest to live in. It never looked back, didn't regret a thing. It was no longer Ranma Saotome it was a creature of the wild. A victim of the Dreaded Cat Fist Technique.
