The administrator cut him off with a wave.  "Save it.  We know all
about SEELE, the Human Instrumentality Project, and how you escaped by
starting up Unit 00 with a dummy plug and hiding within its AT field
until everything died down.  It was quite visible from the Moon when
whatever happened, happened, you know, and that got a lot of sensors
scanning the entire Earth.  Yours was the only space launch from that
moment until the disaster response team arrived from Mars...not that
they could do anything, except confirm the only human bodies remaining
were a couple of corpses on an island near Tokyo-3."

"Then let's skip ahead another few years.  The Juraians, who apparently
had used Earth as a vacation spot for their royals, returned to find it
unsuitable.  They were understandably distressed, but a few words from
a quickly assembled diplomatic crew - including one 'Gen', no last name

our home system into their empire.  During this exchange, Gen managed

witness was known for giving extremely detailed reports, but all she
has ever volunteered about that night is 'oops'."

Gen sighed.  "A big 'oops'."

  This one should be obvious, but I'm not getting it. Dang...

The administrator grinned.  "Are you kidding?  You're *exactly* what
we're looking for.  We weren't joking when we said that one of our
teams has seen far too many deaths around them, and it's never been
their fault.  Believe me, counseling them is a full time job,
especially since none of us can relate that well to the Dirty Pair.
But you can relate to them as if they were your own daughters."  He
stuck out a hand.  "Welcome to the 3WA."
