Subject: [FFML] [C&C][Ranma] newRanma - Chapter 14
Hey kids. I'm playing pretty fast and loose with {Catholocism :
Catholicism} here.
The closest I get to it is the fact that my Mother-in-law is
Catholic. Most of what I know comes from conversations with her.
Corrections on the details are always welcome.
Just one thing. Not all Catholic houses of worship are cathedrals, most
are
churches.
That, and confession is usually held any day of the week EXCEPT Sunday,
since Sunday the priests are all busy saying mass for large groups. St
Peters, my local Catholic church, encourages parishioners to come to
confession on Saturday mornings (no mass scheduled, no conflicts with
weddings) About the perverted priest issue: it's a sad fact, but perverts
exist in all walks of life, irrespective of religion or job, and I think far
more important was not the prtrayal of Father Chietsu but Father Nagisa's
reaction; shock, disappointment, then resolution. And he did the right
thing, right away. I'm impressed, it was very balanced.
I think I should specify that I myself am not a practicing Catholic,
(more like a curious agnostic) but I did go to a Catholic high school and my
Dad is a lapsed Catholic, so I've had quite a few occasions to visit
churches and participate in masses.
I also enjoyed Ranma's reaction to the large crucifix; they _can_ be
quite ghastly, especially to one unused to the symbolism or who is used to
the stark beauty of Shinto temples. Another well done reaction.
As for the story itself, as intelligent and thought-provoking as usual.
I especially like the description of Ranma's shuddering nervousness when
aroused; makes me feel like I was in high school all over again. ~_^
Looking forward to new chapters!
