Glad to see you writing again. Very nice read.
I sympathize with the writers block and illness.
(would you believe I have the measles? :( )

A minor technical quibble regarding the "medical
condition".

This actually has to do with "specific gravity" The
human body has a Specific Gravity (SG) close to that
of Fresh Water.
Fresh Water has a SG of 1.0
Fat = 0.8 (helps you float)
Muscle = 1.0 (does NOT help you float)
Bone   =                 1.5-2 (SINK!!!)

so Akane's problem may be very dense bone, high
proportion of dense muscle fiber and low body fat.
(Normally women have an easier time floating due to
their higher percentage of body fat)

IF she were to swim in a saline body of water (Dead
Sea) she might have an easier time. Many people who
have a hard time in fresh water can swim in the ocean
whose density is ~ 2.5% higher.

Akane sighed. "I wish I could..."

"Hey, you're doing a lot better in the Art, so
maybe--"

"No, Ranma. Part of getting trained by you has...
well, I
realise now that I just naturally sink. Kasumi
found out something
about it-- it's a medical condition called negative
bouyancy. I
really can't ever learn to swim. But maybe lying in
the shallow end
is ok for me."
