No, in canon, you'd be right, but in this fic, Ranma's more than 
just a _little_ mentally unbalanced. He's also wrong, as Akane's 
behavior should have demonstrated. ;)

   And, unless I made a mistake, Akane wasn't violent to Ranma in this 
fic... angry, yes, but not violent. That whole 'violence' thing gets 
blown up a lot -- got a lot of flak about it in the origial version. I 
had to re-think it a bit, and came up with a characterization of Akane 
that I'm much happier with.

No, I didn't mean to imply that Akane is violent or Akane "hates" Ranma in
your fic.  As you said, I found no evidence of that.  I had no problem with
the characterization of Akane in this fic.  In fact, she was very nice.  I
only mentioned Akane and her violence to compare the differences between
anime and manga, where Akane is a violent freak in the anime, and in the
manga, she's just jealous and a little easy-to-anger.

Even though I saw the anime first before I read the manga, I found the manga
more to my liking.  One of the things I didn't like about the anime is the
characterization of Akane.  Another thing is the way they didn't put in the
nicer stories in the manga, or when they did, they cut off the best parts of
it, darn it.  

Back to your fic...

What I said I *did* mind was the theory that Ranma thinks she hates him.  In
my opinion, there was NOTHING Akane had done in the manga which would imply
to Ranma that she hates him.  She's mad, yes, mad a lot of the time, and he
knows that, but I'm sure he knows that she does not hate him, from the way
she sticks her neck out for him, the way she goes jumping into trouble to
help Ranma.  Or there are times when Ranma shows signs that he knows Akane
cares a lot for him.  

1.  vol 16 - hot springs race
2.  vol 13 - hiryu shoten ha
3.  vol 26 - shinnosuke arc
4.  vol 34 - bust battle (and helps him to keep his belly from being slit by
his psychotic mother)
5.  vol 37-38 - saffron
6.  vol 24 - herb

There are others, of course, but these are the ones that readily come to
mind.

Anyway, my point is only that Akane didn't do anything which would make
Ranma think she hated him, or to make him mentally unbalanced because he's
AFRAID of her.  So that makes this theory a little unbelievable for me.

Just wanted to make that point clear. :)  But regardless, I look forward to
reading more of this.
