Well, in all defense he was a bit older and stronger than Kodachi is here.

Actually, if memory serves, Stark wore the torso section of his armor due to 
the fact that it was the only thing keeping him alive for many years. In the 
Attache case, he carried, the helmet, gloves, and boots. The gloves and boots 
then extruded the arm and leg sections. Then poof, on goes the helmet and 
wala.

Nowadays, I believe he's using a sort of Ronin Warriors sub armor. Then a 
liquid metal flows over it and forms the rest of the armor. Kodachi may wish 
to do something similar.
