What...? FLCL and Jhusenkyo?!
Really, I must be crazy ^_^
Well it's a really wierd idea I got after reading a bunch of well-written
Ranma fics and watching Furi Kuri for... lemme give you guys an exact count:
12th time. And I'm going over to my friends house in a few days to show him
the whole series again. It's an amazing series: I enjoyed watching it
immensely. All 12 times I've seen it over, and the OST is especially good.
When I watched it over (and over), I noticed that it was incredibly hard to
really learn the names of the characters (heck, its very hard to understand
the story^^). So BEFORE I begin with the story, here: let me list the
characters names, both from the OVAs and the names I make up, plus the names
of the places.
Names of Places-
Mabase: The name of the town that FLCL takes place in. Home of several
characters and also where the ruined Medical Mechanica plant is.
Shinden High: Shinden Senior Highschool, the school Mamimi used to attend.
In OVAs it's a senior high but in this fic, both junior and senior high
school will be referred to as Shinden.
Medical Mechanica Plant: It's a giant iron made by Medical Mechanica to raze
whole planets. Because of the Atomsk incident, it's currently set at an
angle from the ground ; p
Existing Characters-
Nanbada Naota: 13 years-old at the time of this story, 1st grade in
Shinden-High. A working N-O channel.
Ninamori Eri: 13 years-old at the time of this story, Naota's class-mate.
Also the daughter of Mabase's mayor. (Ok, I never figured out if Eri is the
first name of last name, but then I think Ninamori is the family name, since
Eri just sounds more like a first name ^_^;. In the beginning of episode 3,
her father's secretary calls her Eri-san. So I took a guess and named her
Eri ^_^) Her friends call her Ninamo, as sort of a pet name I guess.
Samejima Mamimi: 18 years-old at the time of this story. A high-school drop
out and a former arson who is currently a professional photographer. Has a
thing for Naota's brother, but I think she's over that right now ; )
Nanbada Tasuku: I have NO freaken' idea how old Tasuku is. He's older the
Mamimi but still is yougn enough to be called 'sempai' by Mamimi. So for
this story, he's going to be 19-years old. A big baseball star currently
out in the States; apparently with 'a blonde chick'.
And JUST for this story, he's going to be somewhat of a flirt.
Naota's big brother.
Canti: Short for Cantide. It's a robot so it doesn't age ^_^. It was
originally made to be part of the terminal core and to contain Atomsk.
Could 'eat' Naota and become Atomsk-esque strong.
Haruhara Haruko: Real name is Rahal. Age...? Don't ask me; physical age
seems to be something like 19 ^_^. But then... why am I writing about her?
Is she even going to be in this story??? She's a space investigator for the
space police fraternity. Also, she's in love with Atomsk.
Atomsk: Pirate King Atomsk, strong enough to steal planets. How old is he?
Who knows? It seems like his powers come from N-O also (Remember when
things got absorbed into his head at the end of episode 6? Even the big
hand got absorbed.) Well, whatever Atomsk is, its not human ^^
Made-Up Characters-
Machikori Yuta: 13 years-old at the time of this story. Goes to Shinden
High with Ninamo and Naota. Naota's friend, physically mediocre, but has a
pretty sharp mind. Occasionally likes to bicker with Ninamo.
Ashidare Aida: 13 years-old at the time of this story (this line gettin'
familliar to ya yet?^^). Tall guy with wild spikey hair dyed white. Good
friend to both Naota and Ninamo. Run-of-the-mill 'cool' sort of guy.
Well, the basic cast is set, more will be introduced, on with the story ^_^;
C&C is greatly appreciated ;D
FYI: This fic'll be mostly in third person but occasionally, first-person
POV narrative will be made (mostly from Naota^^)

The sound of a single note being played by a guitar.
*din*
The sound rings off of the air and buzzes around your ears for ages.
*din*
It's funny how one note can leave a lasting impression. A note's
individuality is lost in a melody, especially with a guitar. A note in a
guitar stands out only when it is alone. When played as a melody, all the
notes fuse together and many becomes one. People always strive to be
individuals, and not just 'a part' of something. Yet there is always
security in being part of a large group. How ironic.
*din*
These were the thoughts that crossed my mind as I sat outside, being
drenched by the rain on the last day of summer vacation. I didn't realize
that it would be the last time I could stand in the rain as myself.

Furi Kuri 1/2
FLCL mixed with Jhusenkyo... and maybe a little bit of Ranma? ^_^
Prologue Chapter: 1/2 + 1/2 = 1
---
Many children made their way about the school grounds. The crisp, cold wind
cut through the bright shining sunlight of a day after a rainstorm. Many
students with their dark-colored uniforms bustling about in close proximity
made the impression of many different heads floating on a dark sea. At
least from the road leading down from the top of a high hill it did.
Nanbada Naota slowly made his way down the hill. A sudden tickle made its
way up his throat.
"A...A... A chu- ite!" Naota exclaimed as he felt something lightly whack
the back of his head. Turning around, Naota saw the familiar sight of a
girl with purple hair tied off into two pigtails a couple of inches taller
than him staring at him with a look of sheer indifference. "What was that
fo-"
Naota was abruptly cut off by another light whack to the back of his head.
Ninamori spoke up, not giving him a chance to complain.
"School's going to start soon. You should walk faster." Ninamori said with
*that* tone. The tone that said 'I'm only asking you to do this but if you
don't...'. Naota raised one eyebrow in irritation and retorted,
"It's too late to get there in time even if I start running, anyways.
Shouldn't you worry about yourself before chiding me? After all, you
*are*
the class president." Ninamori's gaze turned away from Naota and toward the
school down the road infront of her. Taking a firm hold of her handle, she
took off down the road with a push. "Oh, you have a bicycle..." Naota said
to no one in particular. Sighing, Naota didn't change his pace once on the
way to school.
---
"So 432.5 plus 2.5 is 435, because one-half plus one-half makes one, and-"
The teacher droned on about the basics of the decimal system. Which was far
easier than what Naota expected the first day of the second semester of 1st
grade junior-high school class to be like. Bored out of his mind, Naota
leaned back on his seat and half-closed his eyes. A quick glance to the
side provided him with a view of Ninamori with a disapproving look on her
face. Naota quickly averted his gaze to the teacher, still droning about
whole numbers and decimals. The monotone voice was thankfully easy to
ignore. As Naota's brain shoved the teacher's lecture aside as background
noise, his thoughts drifted back to the events of about half an year ago.
After Atomsk sprouted out of his forhead and Haruko left Earth in her quest
to be united with him, things had become pretty stablized. A part of him
was sad to see his life become normal once more. But a part of him was also
glad that it was all over. The N-O channel sending things through his
forhead was a frustrating experience, and besides, Canti remained and that
was enough proof that there was an outside world existing beyond this town's
boundaries. The teacher, absorbed in his own monotone lecture, didn't
notice as a student by the name of Nanbada Naota drifted off to sleep, not
realizing that another 'proof that there is an outside world' was about to
rudely present itself to him.
---
A group of four made their way up a steep hill-side road, surrounded by
trees. Lots of trees. All were wearing the same Shinden-High black
uniforms. The taller of the three boys in the group spoke up first.
"Hey Naota, what's with the bump in the back of your head?" Naota came to
an abrupt stop as his iris shrank down to a dot.
"... what bump?" The nervousness was evident in his voice. Ashidare Aida,
the one who had asked the question, gave Naota a questioning look.
"There's a little bump coming out from the back of your head. It looks like
a rather nasty bug-bite." At that, Naota smiled uneasily and said,
"A bug bite... you're right, it's just a bug bite." He wasn't fooling
anyone in the group as they all saw just how nervous Naota was acting.
Naota unconsciously brought both of his hands up to the back of his head.
Indeed, there was a small bump of skin protruding from the back of his head,
about the size of a mosquito bite. Naota started to finger it nervuosly
when suddenly, with a sudden shout, he pulled both of his hands away from
the back of his head.
"Don't tell me Mr. Nanbada is afraid of bug bites?" Machikori Yuta teased
jokingly. Naota just acted like he didn't hear him. Aida gave Naota
another one of those raised-eyebrow look, and Ninamori just gave him a
sideway glance. For the next few minutes, the group walked in silence. As
the group neared the residential area, each seperated to go their own ways
with a short exchange of 'good-bye's. All throughout, only Naota remained
silent. For he was too busy argueing with himself at that moment to notice
that he was walking alone. He suddenly found himself infront of his house,
the sun still haning relatively high in the western sky. Naota walked into
his house, repeating inwardly to himself, over and over and over: That bump
did
*not* squirm. That bump did
*not* squirm. That bump did
*not* squirm.
Needless to say, he did
*not* sleep well that night.
---
Naota found out next morning, to his relief, that the bump did not grow in
size. It probably is a bug-bite, Nanbada thought to himself as he quickly
put on his uniform. Quickly gulping down his breakfast, Naota began his
daily walk toward his school. It was a ridiculously long walk, and to make
it more ridiculous, his dad refused to drive him to school. Like he has
anything better to do. It took a while, but Naota managed to arrive at
Shinden High on time.
All throughout his classes, Naota nervously fingered the bump. It wasn't
readily noticeable, as he confirmed infront of the mirror this morning.
Naota sighed to himself. It was just a bug-bite right? Nothing to worry
about. Several classes later, Naota found himself quickly drifting off to
sleep to the monotone droning of his math teacher, as he went on forever
with the talks of fractions. He was abruptly brought into consciousness by
a whack from the teacher. The teacher said to him in the same monotone
voice,
"Nanbada-san. Go stand in the halls and join Machikori-san." Sighing,
Noata got up and slowly made his way toward the door. Outside, he was
greeted to the image of his friend dozing off while leaning upright on the
wall.
"When'd you get out here?" Naota asked Yuta with a frown. Was he really
that deep asleep to no notice his friend being sent outside?
"Huh? Oh it's you. I was wondering when you'd get here. I've been out
here for a few minutes." Yuta gave a sleepy reply. He yawned
lethargically. "Hey, have you got water for your bucket yet?" Naota shook
his head, lifting his bucket and turning it over to further his reply.
"That's great! I forgot to get mine filled, so lets go together." Yuta
gave Naota a grin as he nodded his answer rather then waste his energy
saying them out loud.
As the pair made their way down the stairs and outside the school, Naota
felt a wave of uneasiness grow over him. They approached the outdoor
faucets with their buckets raised. Naota walked toward one of the faucets
and turned the water on. A sudden feeling of dread made the hair on the
back of his head rise. Water. Running water. Cold running water. Now why
would that fill him with a feeling of dre-
"I..Ite! Aaagh!" Naota shouted as he doubled over. The tin bucket fell to
the ground with a loud
*clang*.
"O...oy, Naota, what's wrong??" Yuta stammered out as he saw his friend
suddenly double over clutching at his head for no apparent reason. He was
about ot reach out to his friend when suddenly, a large barrel shaped bump
suddenly grew out of the back of Naota's head. "N-nani?!"
"Aaaagh!" Naota exclaimed, though not really in pain. There was the
familiar feeling of foreign matter weighing him down from the back of his
head. Naota fell to his knees as finally, the barrel shaped bump came
through. Yuta watched wide-eyed as apparently, a large wooden barrel popped
out of his friend's head. And he stood still as he watched the barrel break
apart directly above his friends collapsed form, and as the water from
within the barrel rained down on his friend. As the bone-chilling water
from within the barrel washed over Naota, he felt a strange tingling
sensation all around his body. A sudden weight landed on his head and
Naota's head crashed into the rock hard ground. Pain was the last thing he
felt before he resigned himself to darkness.
End of Prologue
Hehehe.
Well, I'm glad I'm done with this prologue. C&C greatly appreciated.
