It had been several decades since they had last seen the Earth.
Commander Ginga wondered if they would ever see her again. Not that he was
unhappy about the prospect of never seeing her again. They had many
adventures since leaving Earth. Their mission was to find a new homeworld
for the population of the giant world-ship he was commanding. The ship's
population had increased a hundred-fold since leaving the terran system.
Nothing he said or did would stop adults from wanting to have children.
Luckily, there had been very few casualties on the trip so far. It was
probably due to the fact of the miracle drug Mitsukake developed.
Supposedly the drug was slowing the aging process to almost negligible
amounts. Commander Ginga looked like a man in his twenties but had actually
celebrated his 150th birthday a couple of months ago. In fact almost all of
the casualties had occurred in a freak accident only two months into the
voyage. They had just left the orbit of Pluto to head into unknown space
when they encountered a worm-hole. somehow a section of the engine had
vanished when they entered it. Ginga couldn't be quite sure to count those
as casualties since it seemd to have simply vanished instead of exploding.
After all he need to keep hope that she was still alive. His wife had been
one of the ones that were missing and presumed dead. She held a special
place in his heart. They had been friends since childhood, then began
dating in High School. After college he finally had gathered enough courage
to propose to her. They spent five years together before the accident,
leaving him with a near-impossible task of giuding the ship through unknown
territory and taking care of three small children. He had been lucky that
his best friend,Taka, and his wife,Miaka, had agreed to watch them while he
was on duty. Taka had also introduced him to his current wife,Yui. The
children simply adored her and she helped to dull the pain by losing Kat.

A loud buzzing broke him out of his reverie. "Commander" his first
officer,Spike, stated. " We have several unidentified objects 100 parsecs
in front of us. They are closing the distance rapidly. What's your
order?" Commander Ginga pondered the situation as this was the first time
since leaving earth that they had encountered any other ships. "Spike,"
the commander replied. "Gather your most experienced pilots and check those
ships out. We need to know whether they have hostile intentions or not. Do
not attack unless provoked. We need to see what therre intentions are."
With the command being given, Spike rushed from the bridge towards the
fighter bay where his VF-1J would be ready to go.

A group of pilots were gathered in the lounge. Spike called out to
some of them to follow him to the hangar bay. He had already contacted his
2nd in command, Gene Starwind, who was already launching out of the ship.
To his left he saw one of his best pilots getting into her Valkeryie. She
was pretty cute, but unfortunately for Spike she was already taken and
Commander Ginga would not like him hitting on his wife. Spike launched from
the belly of the ship wondering what would happen if it turned out that
these crafts were hostile

"Keep in formation and do not, repeat, do not arm your weapons"
Spike instructed. Thirteen of the best pilots in the Suzaku flew towards an
uncertain future. Spike recalled somewhere that thirteen was considered to
be an unlucky number, but he quickly pushed that to back of his mind. He
didn't need something like that cluttering up his thought processes. When
they arrived with-in ten parsecs of the unidentified ships, they could see
that the ships were huge clam-like monstrosities. The ships started to open
up just like a clam, but instaed of having a treasure it launced what seemed
to be fighters. As the other fighters approached they appeared to look like
insects. When the insect-like fighters were in range they released a salvo
of energy disk-shaped projectiles towards the human fighters.

" Break away." Spike yelled. " Return to the ship. There's too
many of them. Arm your weapons but use them only in defense." Suddenly a
crab-like fighter appeared in front of Spike. His only option was to fire
his belly lasers. They impacted the other ship causing it to disenigrate.
Spike could see that his men were heading back towards the Suzaku except for
one person. From the looks of things she must have had a hundred kills
already. She was juking and feinting but still unable to make a break for
the ship. Spike turned around and called out to her. " Yui, head towards
the ship I'll cover you." Hearing this she accelerated to maximum thrust
towards the Suzaku but didn't quite get there. about 3/4 of the way there
one of the energy disks destroyed one of the twin engines. A blue light
engulfed the plane and it dissapeared. Spike saw what happened but was
already landing his plane in the hangar. He did not want to tell Commander
Ginga about this loss. This was the second time this trip that Commander
Ginga had lost a wife. There was one other casualty a young man by the name
of Li Syaoran. It wouldn't be easy to tell Sakura that she had lost her
husband but definately easier than seeing the look on his friend's face. Of
course Ginga would already know but it didn't make it any easier. It was
his duty to let family members know of their loved ones passing to the next
world. But now wasn't the time, There was a new enemy out there that was
larger than they were and possibly more powerful. There would be many more
deaths in the future. Spike made his way towards the bridge, but as he
neared the bridge the walls began to change to a bright red color. Spike
rushed the remaing hundred yards to the bridge, by the time he reached the
bridge the walls had returned to their normal hue of silver-gray. He gazed
out the view port expecting to see thousands of those crab-like fighters
surrounding the Suzaku but to his amazement there was a large blue-white
planet instead. It looked similar to the Earth but was about 1000 times
bigger. Commander Ginga was giving a command to have a scan of readings for
the planet below. When the report came back, Spike was surprised.
According to the probe, this planet had an earth-like atmosphere and even
the gravity which should have been a thousand times more was the same as
earth's Spike wondered what had happened to those other ships, but knew
that most likely they would show up again and this time they would have to
be ready for them or the entire populace would suffer. They needed to
create a superior technology to fight them in battle. Spike didn't see
anything encouraging on the agricultural planet below.

The Suzaku began a slow decent towards the planet's surface below.
