I think this is the first time I've seen it done as a Ranma fusion.
Usually Ranma is fused with Sailor Moon element, not the other way
around.
Huh. So, then, you wouldn't have seen this either? (I'll admit in
advance that my choices of X=Y here could possibly have been better...)

"This is so cool!" Usagi gushed. "Now that we know you're Sailor
Mercury, we can be friends, and hang out, and maybe you can help me
with my homework..."
Ami stared at the ground, blushing furiously, her mind obviously
elsewhere.
"Hello? Ami?"
"I...I'm remembering...that transformation unlocked a lot of
memories..."
"Hey, great! Maybe you can even remember who the other sailor senshi
are."
That got Ami's attention. "You don't know?"
Usagi unconsciously backed away one step. Something...it could be
hope, but it seemed too intense...sparkled in Ami's eyes. "Well, umm,
Luna can't remember much, and I don't remember anything yet. I have to
take Luna's word on it that I'm reincarnated from this Moon Kingdom,
and that there are other senshi."
"I'll vouch for her." Ami stepped close. "But there's something you
really should know."
Usagi held her ground - not that she had much of a choice, pinned as
she was against a wall between a tree and a phone booth - and waited.
"We...*I*...loved you. And I still do." Ami threw herself against
Usagi, taking advantage of her friend's slack jaw to slip in her
tongue as her arms snaked around to explore some dimly remembered
sensitive spots, hoping that her idol's new body still responded in the
same way.
---
The bus coasted to a stop right in front of the temple, most of its
occupants still asleep. Tuxedo Mask was gone within a second of the
door opening, but Sailor Mercury paid him no mind. She rushed up to
the door, fearing for her love's safety...
"You."
"Oh. Long time no see."
Sailor Moon gulped. Having already experienced all manner of
suggestive looks from Ami - to the total surprise of Ami's few other
friends whom Usagi had chatted up, since Ami seemed to become a total
bookworm when Usagi was not around - she knew what feelings lay in the
heart of Sailor Mars as the newest senshi had gone through her own
remembering on the ride back from their enemy's domain. And she could
just as easier hear the venom in their voices as they met each other
for the first time.
Which was confirmed when Mars looked at her. "Usagi, stay away from
this monster woman."
"Whaaat? But...but...she's my friend, and us senshi have to stick
together, and-"
"You said you didn't remember much from the Moon Kingdom. It would
take a long time to describe in detail what she is, but let's start
with how she came to be: for generations, she would have a daughter,
raise her to be fit and strong and powerful, then mindwipe her and move
her own soul into the young body. Sure, she learned enough to be the
greatest scientific genius in the solar system, or so she says, but no
one knows just how many of her daughters she killed that way. She even
tinkered with their genes, at least once having multiple daughters and
only inhabiting whichever turned out to be the most powerful; I heard
the rest either turned themselves into helper robots or committed
suicide. The last generation even hijacked some other life form,
something called the Mass."
Usagi, having detransformed during the speech, looked at Ami, likewise
detransformed. "Is this true?"
Ami continued to glare at Mars. "Do you think I'd admit it if it were
and it would upset you? Even if it were, it wouldn't matter now: I am
Ami Mizuno, and the person that I love is Usagi Tsuikno. But as long
as we're judging by the past, let's talk about how the stuck-up
princess of Mars tried to steal you from me at every turn."
"Try? Ha!" Mars chuckled. "Usagi is mine. The royal houses agreed to
it just before Beryl attacked. Leave her alone."
---
A peaceful and relaxing camping trip, with just the six of them.
"Yeah, right," Usagi muttered. Ami and Rei were bickering once again
with Mamoru unsuccessfully trying to negotiate, Minako was cuddling her
and prattling on about how brave she had been to scare off that mean
and nasty fly, and Makoto was brooding again as she tended the fire.
At least Usagi was used to it.
"Hey, Makoto? What's your story? You never did tell me what your life
was like back then."
"Huh?" Makoto looked up, then shook her head. "The story of my life
is right next to you."
"Eh?"
"The four of us were supposed to police the solar system, kind of the
top cops, but Mercury would go off on all kinds of scientific studies
and Mars got all wrapped up in politics, so actual enforcement fell to
Venus and myself. I was told that Venus used to be able to handle
everything herself, and the other planets were given their own senshi
once the load got too great for one person. But every Sailor Venus I
saw performance reports on was...well, Minako's actually slightly less
of a ditz, if you can believe it. Or maybe I'm just more willing to
forgive her now."
"Oh." Usagi searched Makoto's eyes from a distance. "Umm..."
"If you're wondering why I'm not coming onto you, I never did. You're
cute and all, but you've already got three suitors, and you're not
exactly my type. Besides, even back then I figured the Moon Princess
could use a friend among us four rather than a lover. I've got my eye
on Mars's brother."
"You mean you *had* your eye on him."
"No, have." Makoto pointed towards the ten year old who, when he first
introduced his real identity, everyone assumed was named "Chibi"
instead of "Chiba". "But it looks like he got reincarnated late, or
re-reincarnated after his first reincarnation died like he says he
remembers. I'll have to wait a few years before dating him in public
so people don't leap to the wrong conclusions."

C. She's only seen her mother doing it with men, especially if the
elder Serenity viewed bonding with her lifemate as something worthy
of more privacy.
She's only seen ... what? Doing it with men is a public affair?????
Maybe not sex on the streets (blocking traffic and/or as part of some
civic festival) public, but not necessarily behind closed doors either.
Exactly what kind of society were you thinking of? Decadent Imperial
Roman?
Well...similar architecture, similar time period (millenia ago), rule
by nobles (thus, Imperial instead of Republic), certain rungs of the
social ladder that are completely unclimbable by those of common birth
(one is born a senshi; one not born to it can not become it)...
What if the Roman Empire was merely the Earth branch of the Moon
Kingdom, and part of what got destroyed when Rome was sacked was every
trace of their off-world connections?
I've seen a few fics where the Silver Millenium was portrayed as having
been build on the backs of Earth slave labor, with Beryl leading a
rebellion.
I've seen a few of those about too. It's a tempting to think of the
moon cat's version of history as a sugar-coated fairytale hiding a
dark centre, for some reason.
I vaguely recall a senario where the senshi were originally the
mind-controlled puppets of the Moon Queen, acting as storm troopers
while living in a fantasy world, and Beryl and the Generals sincerly
believed they were fighting on the side of good.
Classic dystopian fare meshes so *easily* with Sailor Moon, no? ^_^
It is canon (at least in the manga) that, in their prior incarnations,
the Generals and the senshi were lovers, paired one to one. History as
written by the victors (the moon cats, I believe) was that the Generals
were corrupted by Beryl. Which would be precisely what they would say,
if they still believed the Moon Kingdom was in the right but the
Generals gave a receptive ear to Beryl's pleas.
That's canonical? I always thought it was just a cliche?
Well...so I've been told repeatedly by friends who have read the manga.
Hmm. I was thinking more along the lines of senshi being split into
complementary pairs; with each being out of balance without their other
half.
That might make for a good fanfic in its own right. I certainly had
not thought of that. (Though I did consider, and scrap, an idea last
year for Ami and Akane finding out about each other and swapping
lives, where Akane's mother, a little afraid of Soun by that point and
hearing that her friend had just miscarried, offered one of her own
newborn twin daughters to replace the dead baby.)
I've got enough projects right now. Though I do try to encourage those
who really like certain ideas I come up with but can't pursue myself to
do them. After all, if I can't use an idea, it's worthless to me by
definition... ^_-
I hear that. Still, whenever you finish off a few of your current
projects, I vote this one as one to pick up. :)
Dude...if I could magically finish every single project I'm working on
right now, the world would be different. (Let's start with viable hot
fusion; it goes on from there.) Fanfics aren't my only projects, you
see, though they are the ones that keep me (relatively) sane as the
others progress. ^_^
