I think I see the problem, and it has little to do with the characters
themselves (at least, directly).

It is not uncommon for anime and manga versions of popular series to be
different continuities; Tenchi is specifically infamous for having
several different mutually exclusive anime continuities (OAV, TV, and
Tenchi in Tokyo, plus spinoffs like Pretty Sami and continuity-mixing
movies which are not entirely consistent with anything else).  If the
author is using the OAV and/or TV continuities and ignoring the manga,
which is something I've seen many Tenchi fanfic authors do (and I am
guilty of doing in my own works), then nothing said in the manga is
relevant.

Moreover, fanfiction is free to deviate from canon to whatever degree
it wants; such is its nature.  If it deviates too far, it ceases to be
"fan"fiction, but minor discrepancies such as relative power levels are
far below that level.  Indeed, the logical extereme of "no
discrepancies" is either a word-for-word repeat of the canon material
itself - which, for anyone but the series creator, would be plagarism
of the worst (commercial) sort - or more material from the series
creator - who defines the series and its characters to begin with - and
neither of these is fanfiction either.

If that answers your objections, can we please drop this now?
