I'm a little confused about the Lovecraft comment.
 I'm wondering if you mean that Lovecraft can be written into anything....
 like my STILL unwritten "Senshi of an Elder God" (With appologies to John
Biles and Co.)
or that you can remove certain names in a mythos story (such as Hastur and
Cathy-loo)  and simply create a spooky story?

I find that it is oft the case that alternate (abet well written) fics
could possibly be so OOC that yo umight not recognise them.
 Oddly enough I thought (for about the fist 30% of the fic that it was a
Sailor Moon Weis Ceuz fic.
 I still liked it.

I think you're missing the point.  You can take that entire fiction, change
the names, and in some ways, it would be MORE effective.  Almost like some
