I'm a little confused about the Lovecraft comment.

Having recently re-read several Lovecraft stories, a lot of the imagery in
the story - the idea of the grave cheering his action, the deceased prince
raging in impotence, etc brought up many of the same feelings I had from
reading some of Lovecraft's work.

 I'm wondering if you mean that Lovecraft can be written into anything....
 like my STILL unwritten "Senshi of an Elder God" (With appologies to John
Biles and Co.)

or that you can remove certain names in a mythos story (such as Hastur and
Cathy-loo)  and simply create a spooky story?

Actually, I didn't mean either.  Lovecraft was an author of many styles.
Unfortunately, the one he's most commonly associated with in the public eye
is the...well...the only words that come to mind is "shapeless horror".  He
was able to write in a way to specifically create a feeling of dread.

When he was trying to write like his idol (who's name escapes me at this
moment) he tends to slip into more of a mythological bent.

RSS' work fit into the latter for me.

That's what I was trying to say.

Refering to your question, however, yes, to the first part, and
a...well...no, to the second.

On the first: It requires a lot of mangling (aka creativity) or wide
interpretations (aka creative license) for it to work, even in the cases in
which it does.  In the some of the best examples (see Alan Harnum's works)
Lovecraft wasn't written into anything....Ranma/etc was written into
Lovecraft.

On the second: Not necessarily.  Part of a good mythos story is the
atmosphere it creates.  The names used can often enhance or fine-tune that
mood.  What happened in RSS' works is that they didn't do either.

I find that it is oft the case that alternate (abet well written) fics
could possibly be so OOC that yo umight not recognise them.

Oh, given.  But, you have to realize that sometimes that the OOCness is the
whole point.   Also, OOCness can be much like beauty - in the eye of the
beholder.

 Oddly enough I thought (for about the fist 30% of the fic that it was a
Sailor Moon Weis Ceuz fic.

Weis Ceuz?

 I still liked it.

So did I.  As I've said repeatedly, this was a near masterful work from RSS.
