The Chase
The small red head huffed as he doused the small
fire. "What? Are you trying to get us killed?"
"Grawr!" was all the large panda said before
shrugging his shoulders and heading toward the tent.
'Great,' Ranma thought. 'Just great. Not like he
really cares. It's my life on the line, not his.' The cursed
neo-girl shook her head. 'Should 'a let 'em have him.'
'Too bad. A little fire would 'a been nice,' she
ruefully thought as the night wind blew chills up her back.
'Not to mention the chance to sleep as a man again.' Softly
she sighed.
They had been running for about a week, and still
the girl didn't seem to give up. He and the panda hadn't
even had a chance to change back since they ran out of that
village. He didn't want to die a girl. He really didn't want
to die.
Of course, why he shouldn't just give up was beyond
him. He had lost everything in that one moment. 'Some
man-among-men I am.'
His eyes shut tightly, trying to keep all of his
fathers words out, but it was useless. 'Women are week,'
'Are you a man or a woman,' 'Even a girl could do that,' 'It
's a martial artists duty to protect the week, like women
and children.' Over and over, 10 years worth of careless
remarks hammered into his head. But that was nothing
compared to that look in his fathers eyes, when he first got
out of the pool. Everything was over in that instant. Men
were martial artists, not little crybaby girls.
He didn't remember much after that. Just that he had
chased the old man all over the area. Lucky for the panda,
they found out it could be reversed. Not that that helped in
what must have been the wettest place on earth.
"Girls are week," he mumbled. After being chased
half way across China by one that didn't know the meaning of
the word, he didn't really believe that. The panda suddenly
seemed to develop a healthy fear of them when they had to
run off. He had seen enough women in their travels that were
plenty tough, even if pops had put them down behind their
backs. But he was a brand new girl. He didn't know the first
thing about being one. He didn't want to know anything about
being one. But that not knowing had almost cost him that
match. Not that he was sure that was a good thing any more.
He looked up at the tent. 'No, he maybe a poor
excuse for a panda, but he's my dad.' There was no way, he
could allow them to serve him for dinner.
With one last heavy sigh, he climbed into the tent
and his bedroll. He would have thanked the kami for it not
raining on them for the past few days, he hated the smell of
wet panda, but he figured with his luck, it would probably
just remind them.
----------
Something moved in their tent, and it wasn't the old
man. Carefully looking up, he saw two inverted mountains of
soft flesh.
Jerking his eyes fully open, he felt a hand slam
against his mouth and the tip of a blade against his neck.
Looking directly up, he found two soft brown eyes gazing
deeply into his own. 'She's cute,' he thought, then
remembered he was about to die. 'Okay, maybe cute isn't the
word.' The word 'tomboy' flashed through his mind.
"Shush." The girl commanded. Ranma shook his head.
"Listen, not want kill you."
'Great!' Ranma thought, 'I don't want to die!'
"But will, unless get out of China." Ranma gulped.
"Once you leave, stop chasing you. But if turn back, have to
kill. Understand?" Ranma nodded. "Good. Now run!" she hissed
loudly, letting go at the same time.
Ranma didn't need to be told a second time.
Absently, she hoped pop would be okay, but with the sound of
that girl chasing her, she was not about to turn around and
go check.
----------
From up in a tree, several yards away, a girl with
long purple hair grinned evilly. At first when Mir Or had
entered the tent, she thought she was actually going to do
it. That would have been very disappointing.
But after taking far too long, the girl some how
managed to escape, with her rival in pursuit. She couldn't
prove anything yet, but it was just a matter of time.
She may have fooled the elders, but Shan Pu had seen
the look in Mir Or's eyes after the girl ran from the kiss
of death. She hadn't understood anything that she had said
to the girl, but they both spoke the same barbarian tongue.
You can't trust outsiders. They should never have made that
slut an Amazon. She lies, cheats, and steals all the boys
for her own attention.
Shan Pu had been even more infuriated when Mir Or's
win hadn't been tossed out. With that ki attack, it was
obvious she was cheating. Using techniques that weren't
allowed to be taught to maidens. No one would admit to
teaching her though. They had even pointed out that it was
too rough to have been taught, that she had to have
developed it herself, therefore was legal in the tournament.
She had wanted to scream.
All she had to do now was wait until she showed her
true colors, then the elders would listen.
----------
A week and a half weeks later found a boy and his
father aboard a ship bound for Japan. His father had wanted
to swim across again, but the boy pointed out that the girl,
less burdened, might catch up to them if they attempted to
swim, and that she had specified that they take a boat or
she wouldn't stop. She hadn't really said that last bit, but
his father didn't know that. Once across the Sea of Japan
was more than enough for the boy.
He smirked to himself as he looked out across the
dark waters and star filled sky. Being able to see the stars
like this always made his troubles seem like they were far
away and insignificant. He took in a deep breath, tasting
the open sea-air. 'Kami-sama is in his home, all is right
with the world.'
"Is clear night." A soft, almost musical voice
started him out of his revelry.
"Yea." He started, turning around. He suddenly found
his heart halfway up his throat, as the girl that was trying
to kill him stood between him and the rest of the boat.

Author's Notes: Opps. I always hated being left
hanging like that. Hopefully (all editing aside) the next
section will be alittle bit longer. (
