Well, well... First time (if I remember) my C&C
created an on-list debate this long. After reading
responses some criticizing my view and some apparently
defending it, I wish to explain my view on this
subject.
I will admit that my C&C for "Nerima's Knights"
might seem like a flame without use of name-calling
and crude language for some people, although I tried
to base my criticisms on reason. And the reason I
used
this instance was the canon, which people have
different views about; some see it as a bible to base
their fanfictions upon, while some people regard it as
being little more than the source of characters and
setting. For me (and FOR ME, not necessarily for
you),
canon matters little in alternate universe or
crossover
fics, but it is very important in continuation or
original flavor fics (which Nerima's Knights seemed to
be). Therefore, if any character's personality
appears diffrent from canon without proper explanation
or at least hints of it, I find it very difficult to
like that fic. And if I dislike it or parts of it
enough, I will send criticisms explaining why I don't
like it.
Regardless of a writer's view toward canon or
any other subject related to fanfiction, receiving
C&Cs is inevitable (unless you specifically ask for no
C&C). If one's fic is read by enough people, he or
she
will get both praises and criticisms, both from those
who share his/her views and those who do not. My
argument is this; a writer can write any story he or
she wishes, but readers have the right to make any
comments that they want to make. If a writer does not
like the comments he or she gets, he or she is free to
ignore it, and similarily readers can ignore the
stories they don't want to read.
I hope that explains why my C&C for Nerima's
Knights sounded the way it does, and why I wrote it
that way.
