C&C is not expected but it is certainly welcomed. All flames

Chapter One: Karma

------------------------------------------

Kotaro Shindou was dead. It was the sad truth that the said martial artist was refusing to face. Already, several angels were maimed by the teenaged karate expert; while two more were trying to pacify him.

"I am not dead!" Kotaro roared at the two guys with wings and white robes who were trying their best to keep out of his reach.

"But Shindou-san, you are dead." one of them whined. He had the sort of annoying voice that made Kotaro really angry. Since Kotaro was already angry, he shifted into being seriously pissed off.

"Just shut up!" Kotaro yelled as he leapt at the whiny angel. The poor guy was too scared to dodge and ended up on the receiving end of Kotaro's vicious left hook. His head snapped around and he slumped to the puffy, cloud-like floor with a soft thud.

Kotaro turned to the other, his long braided hair swishing from side to side. The angel backed off a little more and put his hands up in a defensive posture.

However, Kotaro took it as the angel charging up some sort of attack. He took initiative and jumpkicked the angel in the face. He then pummeled him with a barrage of lightning fast punches. The angel dropped like a rock and Kotaro glanced around for someone else to vent on.

He couldn't be dead, he just couldn't. Kotaro remembered back to all the fights he had been in his 17 years among the living. He'd almost died a dozen times. It only served to strengthen him though; just like the old saying said.

The longhaired martial artist refused to believe that out of all his enemies, Principal Saito could kill him. The wimpy point dexter didn't have the balls to do such a thing.

He thought back to where he had been just before appearing in this odd, white place. He had been on his 9am panty raid as usual when Saito had shown up with some bodyguards. Kotaro had trashed them easily and prepared to do the same to the principal. That was when Saito had pulled the revolver on him. Two shots were fired and that was all he could remember.

Kotaro dropped to his knees as he realized that he was in fact dead. His face contorted with a mixture of range and anguish.

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" Kotaro screamed. Several onlookers had to cover their ears or risk eternal deafness. Kotaro fell face forward in defeat. It wasn^t the fact that he had died and would never see Mayumi or another girl again, it was the fact that Saito had been the one to do the deed. Kotaro would have liked to have been killed by someone powerful in an epic duel to the death. Instead he got a Gai Daigoji death. That was not cool with the martial artist. Not by a long shot.

"It's okay son." a voice said to him. Kotaro sat up to face the speaker. His eyes shone with unshed tears. The elderly man smiled kindly. "Yes, cry. Let it all out."

Kotaro frowned and socked the old man in the jaw. As the man fell, Kotaro turned and farted in his face.

"Feh. Men don't cry. An' I'm a man!" Kotaro thumped his chest with his fist to punctuate the statement. "Now where's the bus? I wanna leave."

Another angel stepped forward. This one resembled Momotarou with the devilish eyebrows and the stern face. He towered over Kotaro like the martial artist was a toddler.

"I am sorry to trouble you all for this." The angel stated this as if he was reading off of cue cards. Kotaro briefly thought of his rival back home. Jiji was probably chewing him out again for being overly obsessive. Kotaro smiled. No one was as obsessive as Momotarou Ushirono was. The guy lived and breathed revenge. His usual line was "Shindou! Prepare to die!" Kotaro stifled a chuckle. Only and idiot like Momo would use a line like that.

------------------------------------------

Somewhere on Earth, a tall man with long brown hair, stern features and devilish eyebrows sneezed.

------------------------------------------

Kotaro looked up at the towering angel. He sneered.

"I've taken on bigger guys than you." he quipped as he cracked his knuckles. "You're goin' down pal!"

Kotaro leapt high into the air. He flipped twice and aimed a kick directly at the angel's face. His eyes widened in shock when he hit nothing but air.

Still falling, Kotaro was vulnerable to a crushing kick to the kidney. He hit the ground hard and rolled. He jumped to his feet while nursing his side with one hand. He grinned maliciously and dropped into a loose combat stance.

The angel stood stiffly and made no move. Kotaro attacked again. This time he seemed to split into two Kotaros. The two longhaired teens danced around the angel for a moment before simultaneously kicking him in either temple. At the last possible second, the angel brought his arms up to block the attack. Both Kotaros vanished suddenly, only to be replaced by one standing behind the angel with both arms extended and his palms resting on the angel's back.

There was a loud crack as a large chi manifested from Kotaro's hands. The angel lurched forward but kept his footing. He spun to face Kotaro, his face betraying no emotion. The crowd that had grown around them was shocked. Yet not nearly as shocked as Kotaro himself.

"Yield boy. You cannot harm me,^ he said in his monotone voice. Kotaro did not want to give up under any circumstances, but something inside is head told him that he was no match for the angel. Kotaro dropped his head and sighed.

"Excellent. Now come with me." Kotaro followed the larger man, all the while wishing he was back home getting hit by Mayumi.

------------------------------------------

Ranma Saotome was alive and well. At least for the time being anyway. Akane had cooked dinner that night and Ranma had mysteriously vanished. Akane took that as an insult as usual and stomped off to punish him accordingly.

A redheaded girl sit submerged in the koi pond of the Tendo home. She was breathing through a thin reed that was above water level. Several fish darted by her, knowing full well why she was there.

Ranma sighed as best she could, given that she was under water and breathing through a little tube. Akane was probably still mad over dinner, Ranma thought. She calculated that it would be sometime next week when the youngest Tendo would be calmed down enough to reason with.

Ranma nixed that last thought. She could never, ever reason with Akane. Not even at the best of times. Forgetting she was under water, she grumbled something about uncute tomboys.

This proved a mistake as the reed slipped out of Ranma's mouth along with some of her precious air. The redhead burst to the surface and quickly looked around for a shorthaired girl with a mallet. Seeing no such person, she stepped out of the koi pond and removed her shirt.

As she rung it out, she glanced over to the wall of the yard. She scowled as she watched to heads pop out of site behind it. Ranma envisioned what sorts of pain she'd make Hiroshi and Daisuke endure for spying on her. She briefly wondered how they had known she was in the pond in the first place.

------------------------------------------

Hiroshi and Daisuke were ginning like idiots. Nabiki had told them about Ranma being in the pond. It had only cost them 5000 yen a piece, a steal in their books for such a sight.

"Hey Dai. Do you think she saw us?" Hiroshi asked his partner in peeping. Daisuke shook his head.

"Nah. We ducked down in time."

Hiroshi grinned even wider.

"Let's have another look, okay?"

"You don't need to tell me twice!"

Daisuke stepped back on to the trashcan that allowed him to see over the wall. His vision was met by a fist. More precisely, Ranma's fist. Daisuke toppled over backward, unconscious.

Hiroshi took one look at his fallen comrade and froze like a deer in headlights. Ranma smiled coyly at him.

"Hello Hiro-kun." she said sweetly.

Hiroshi didn't buy it at all, but he was powerless against such cuteness and thus fell victim to a right hook that sent him to dreamland.

------------------------------------------

"As you can see Shindou-san, you have a few bad deeds to work off before you get into heaven." the tall angel said matter of factly.

Kotaro scowled. He figured his perverted, fight-loving nature would get him in trouble. He hadn't known the half of it. After spending six hours reviewing his life, they had concluded that he needed "community service" to get into heaven.

"But I saved Japan from that stupid school of dance!" Kotaro half yelled. "That's gotta count for somethin'!"

The angel nodded.

"It does. That's what's keeping you out of hell."

Kotaro was shocked. Hell? Had he been that bad? Sure he stole underwear on a regular basis and touched where he wasn't supposed to. That and he had crippled a fair share of people for life. He hung his head in shame. He had even killed someone. The bastard had deserved it and had even begged for it in the end. It was still murder anyway he looked at it.

"We're sending you to Earth as part of the Guardian Angel program. You'll be assigned according to your qualification needs."

Kotaro had an idea what that meant. He was gonna get the hardest assignment there was. He silently prayed that it was a girl. A really pretty one.

------------------------------------------

Ranma dried the water out of his hair. He was in the kitchen, having just turned himself male again with a kettle of hot water. Ranma looked around the dining area. There were no signs of casualties, which meant that no one had eaten any of Akane's home cooked meal.

Ranma's stomach growled at the reminder of food. He had spent six hours in the pond and was starving as a result. He slipped on his shoes and headed out for Ucchan's.

------------------------------------------

Kotaro and the angel stood alone on the sidewalk in front of an Okonomiyaki restaraunt. The angel's wings had vanished as well as his halo. Kotaro's stomach growled as he caught the scent of fresh okonomiyaki.

"Your case should come along in any moment. Your job is to assure his survival by any means necessary. You will have access to human form due to the complexities of this mission."

"Complex? How hard can it be to keep this dumb ass alive?"

The angel turned to face him with a genuine smile; the first emotion Kotaro had ever seen on his face.

"That is what they all said."

Kotaro was perplexed. He scratched his head.

"Who said?"

"Why your predecessors of course." The angel's smile was beginning to get on Kotaro's nerves. He began considering wiping it off his face by force. His train of thought was derailed by the arrival of his case.

"Ranma Saotome. Is that the chump?" Kotaro asked. The angel nodded and faded away.

"Good luck. You will need it."

Kotaro stuck his tongue out at the fading apparition. Like he needed luck when it came to doing anything.

------------------------------------------

Ranma couldn't help feeling insecure as he walked along the fence to Ucchan's. Any minute, he'd be attacked by some crazy rival or glomped onto by a fiancee. Life wasn't fair. Ranma wished that he could meet his guardian angel sometime and kick him for doing such a lousy job.

As Ranma had predicted, Ryoga Hibiki came around the corner looking lost as usual. His

Revenge-radar picked up Ranma almost instantly. He threw off his pack and charged at the pig-tailed martial artist.

"Ranma! Prepare to die!" Ryoga's battle cry could be heard from three blocks away. He vaulted into the air hoping to catch his hated foe with a jumpkick. However, he was knocked out of the sky by a boy with long, braided hair. Ryoga landed not so gracefully on his rear. The other boy landed a couple of yards away on his feet. Ryoga got to his feet. He looked between the boy and Ranma, trying to decide whom to attack. He settled on Ranma and attacked with an extended finger.

Again, the lost boy found himself on the ground. This time from a savage kick to the side of his head. He groggily stood again and tried to focus his vision. He recovered just in time to get kicked between the eyes. Ryoga fell to the concrete, unconscious.

Meanwhile, Ranma just stood, mouth agape at what he had just seen. Some stranger who slightly resembled him (pure coincidence might I add), had just waxed Ryoga with only three hits.

He recovered his tongue and pointed at the stranger.

"Just who the hell are you?"

The strange boy just smirked.

"Kotaro Shindou, but you can call me your worst nightmare."

A dramatic breeze picked up outside of Ucchan's, stirring both teenagers.
