...because no child, whatever their age,

should ever utter such

a terrible prayer...

It was a truly horrible prayer for a child to say.

Yes, but there are some real children in OUR

world

that may be praying for their own death for whatever

trauma they suffer. That fact makes this fic all the

more terrifying.

In all of the Ranma fanfics I can recall right

offhand, I don't remember

any that really focus on the horror that such a

trauma must have caused

Ranma. It has always been a slightly detached view

that we get, almost

boiling down to...

- Ranma exhibits signs of the Neko-ken.

- Ranma falls into the Neko-ken.

- <Someone> tells <others> of the Neko-ken and the

training involved.

- <Others> are horrified at such an act.

I can think of one. The second epilogue of Ill

Met By Starlight had the 10-year-old Ranma doing a

monologue right before and after the Neko-ken training

had him going mad on inside while appearing sane on

outside. The phrase of

"I'mstillinthepitI'mstillinthep

itI'MSTILLINTHEPITI'MSTILLINTHEPITI'MSTILLINTHEPIT-"

was enough to sum up Ranma's trauma which he never got

over in that fic.

The Neko-ken has always been treated as a truly

horrible thing, which it

is (even if it is only fiction; I _hope_ it's only

fiction) but to show

Ranma's fear and trauma at such a level...

Well, most people, including myself, want to

treat Ranma 1/2 on a cheerier tone.

No other fanfic concerning the Neko-ken has affected

me like this one.

I was rocked by the the prayer. For such a yound

mind to by so scarred...

It gives a horrible new insight as to what must be

going thru Ranma's mind

whenever he sees a cat.

Thanks for sharing...

Likewise. Now I'm gonna have trouble going

sleep... That's a compliment, mind you.
