I one time read a Ranma1/2 fic that had X-Com as a crossover. It was

pretty cool.

This is my try as a fanfic, a real one. C&C is -always- appreciated. I

might add

a few anime charcacters. This fic is based on a computer game.

X - COM

Extraterrestrial Combat Unit

E P I S O D E

Enemy Unknown

In the year 1999, mankind is faced with an apocalyptical crisis.

In 1998, there were numerous reports of alien abductions and UFO

sightings that instigated controversies and fueled religious beliefs that

were considered ridiculous. These events sparked mass public paranoia

around the world. But most the governments put off the concerns of the

growing UFO incursions.

Those incursions marked the beginning of an alien invasion.

Now, in 1999, alien abduction and UFO sightings had increased to about

three-fold. The world governments began to be concerned about the

growing alien incursions. The Japanese government formed its own alien

combat unit to counter the alien incursion, but it was shut down before

it could even shoot down its first UFO, due to insufficient funds and

personnel.

All the world leaders met together about the growing concern of the

incoming alien invasion. They all agreed that only an international

combat unit could counter the alien threat. Therefore, the leaders

founded X-COM, standing for Multi-national Extraterrestrial Combat Unit.

This combat unit would detect and intercept UFOs, and protect the world

from incoming alien terrorism.

November 12, 1999

Warren Park, Chicago, Illinois 12:30 AM

Crighton looked his watch. It was 12:30, it was cold outside, and his

butt was freezing. Crighton was called from his rundown apartment to

meet somebody in Warren Park at exactly 12:00, and somebody was thirty

minutes late! Crighton wondered why did he even bother to come here. He

could^ve stayed in his apartment with the heater broken, and lie on his

cold bed.

Crighton shivered at that thought.

John Crighton was twenty-four years old, and an ex-marine of the United

States Navy. Crighton fought in South America and Bosnia, did a few

months of patrol duty, and resigned from military service. After

military service, he then took the quiet life of a librarian. He had an

athletic build, blue fierce eyes, and a brown hair cut to a crewcut. If

a person would take a look into his eyes, they would know that he had

been through a lot of battles.

Suddenly, a black van, which was stereotypical for government agents,

approached and stopped five meters away from Crighton. A figure stepped

out from the van. It was a Caucasian man in his fifties, with a bushy

moustache and wearing a military officer cap and uniform decorated with

medals.

^It^s finally good to see you Crighton,^ said the military man.

^Heh, good to see you Commander Hayton,^ Crighton chuckled in humor.

^What^s the important matter you wanted to discuss,^ asked Crighton.

Commander Hayton took one step forward. ^I lead a unit that has a

responsibility of countering a terrorist threat,^ began Hayton. ^I want

you to sign up for active duty.^

^What is it, Navy SEALS, Black Ops, Special Forces? Forget it, I^m

through with the army stuff. I^m beginning to like my librarian job.^

Chrighton didn^t want anything to do with the army after his service. He

was tired of putting his life on the line.

The commander knew that Crighton was going refuse at first. ^Why don^t

we discuss this over coffee,^ said Hayton. ^My treat.^

Sloppy Joe^s 1:00 AM

^So, you want me to sign up to kick E.T.^s butt.^

Crighton couldn^t believe it. This Commander Hayton was telling him

about a combat unit dealing with aliens. Aliens for Pete^s sake! He was

supposed to sign up to fight a bunch of ^little green men from Mars^.

As if he believed any of that stuff.

^The enemy you^re about to face is unlike any other foe you^ve

encountered,^ said Commander Hayton as he set down his mug. He knew

Crighton was going to trouble believing him. ^As I said, I need you

Crighton. I^d be willing to give you your own quarters, and good pay.

All you have to do is sign up. By the way, how^s you apartment? Do you

enjoy your own accommodations?^

Hayton got Crighton there. In truth, he would live in a rathole than

his apartment. But still, his offer was tempting. Guaranteed good

sleeping quarters, and $1000 per month. $1000! What did he have to

lose? Either sign up, or live in that rathole he called an apartment.

Anyways, the librarian job wasn^t so exciting^

^Fine. I accept.^

Before Crighton left the table, the Commander left him with this advice:

^Expect the unexpected, Crighton.^

Old Edwards Base, or CentCOM (Central America X-COM)

November 14, 1999 7:00 AM

Crighton was in Old Edwards Base.

It was rundown. The beds were creaky. Some of the lights were broken.

It was ^

It was an abandoned airbase.

^Why, oh why did I get myself into this mess,^ wondered Crighton. But

during his stay here, Crighton learned a lot. He learned that X-COM was

formed to counter alien abduction and incursion ever since increase of

UFO reports. But he also knew why an abandoned airbase had to be chosen

as a Base for X-COM activity for Central America. There were still some

world leaders that had doubts about the project. Therefore, there was a

little trouble in funding.

But Crighton also a flaw in the base he was in. It wasn^t the equipment

or whatnot; it was the personnel. These men were between 19-45 years

old, and they were rookies. Even though some had combat experience, they

were still green and could easily die in an operation if on duty. There

were absolutely no veterans in this base.

All of a sudden, a klaxon alarm rang its heart out.

Crighton saw all the personnel rushing to different rooms. ^What^s

going on,^ Crighton asked one of the personal. ^Our Interceptor^s got a

UFO, we^re doin^ cleanup,^ yelled the armed man.

The Interceptors were the pride of the United States Air Force. With

dual supersonic engines, sleek maneuverability, and high-shielded

electronic systems, it was the finest bird of the United States, the

finest of Earth technology. If the Interceptor was impressive enough, it

could probably shoot down a UFO.

Crighton ran to his lockers, grabbed his battle uniform, rushed to the

armory, equipped his arms, and rushed to the hangar, where a Skyranger

was waiting for them.

The Skyranger was the Russian Air Force^s best armor air transport. It

could still carry to about 1600 tons while reaching topnotch speeds. The

Skyranger had the toughest armor plate, rivaling that of a tank. It was

Russian^s armor pride.

There were ten men inside the Skyranger, including Crighton. The

eleventh men was inside a tank outfitted with a rocket launcher, with

eight missiles attached to its hardpoint. The cargo bay doors of the

Skyranger closed, and the armored bird lifted off to its destination.

^This is it, said Crighton. The battle was beginning.

Greenswell Forest, Winsconsin, Central America 7:30 PM

The cargo bay doors opened to reveal a dark, deep forest. The personnel

rushed out when the tank exited out of the transport to the field.

Crighton could here some of the men joking about ^little green men^.

^Rookies,^ Crighton thought. They were going to get themselves killed

easily on a mission.

Crighton formed two squads, each five men. He was leading Squad One.

Crighton ordered Squad Two to approach the crash site cautiously. He

then ordered the manned tank scout ahead while his squad will scout the

area near the crash site.

After a few minutes and meters traveled, Crighton heard a branch

snapped. He ordered his men to take cover and radioed in for the tank.

^Hank, come in over.^

^Hank here, what^s up,^ responded the manned tank.

^What^s in your area of sight,^ asked Crighton. He needed to see if the

tank got a visual of any incoming hostile. He desperately needed that

recon.

	^I don^t see anything yet,^ said the pilot. ^All I see is dark and^

well, trees. I^m ejecting a electro-flare. There. I got some light

here. Nothing but trees. Nada^ wait, I heard something. Steps I hear^

8 klicks northwest^ what^s that light^ it^s coming nearer^ OH MY G^!^

There was a blast of burnt metal heard. Then, a sizzle was heard on the

radio.

^I^m^ all right,^ gasped Hank. ^Firing rocket!^

There was sounds of explosions heard and an unhuman scream followed.

^Move out men,^ Crighton ordered. ^We^re assisting the tank!^

5 minutes passed and 17 klicks traveled^

By the time Squad One got to the tank, it was gone. The tank was

utterly destroyed, only burnt metal and flesh remained. ^Oh my god,^ one

of men freaked out. ^ What kind of weaponry would do this kind of

damage!?^

^Alright men! Let^s not freak out now,^ yelled Crighton. ^It appears

we^re dealing with an enemy that^s unlike anything we ever faced.

Crighton mentally added a duh in his speech. He now just realized that

he was fighting a different, more sinister foe. If we stick our heads

together, we can make it! McPhearst, you take Pharkas and sweep left.

Rhymes and Bear, follow my lead, I^m flanking left.^

After traveling a few clicks, every squad member heard a branch snapped.

Crighton had a bad feeling about this. ^TAKE COVER,^ hollered Crighton,

but by the time everybody went to take cover, a sharp, bright green beam

emitted from nowhere and hit McPhearst square in the chest, leaving a

big, wide charred hole.

Man down.

^Enemy fire,^ yelled one of the four, remaining men. Engage contact,^

ordered Crighton and the men let loose a volley of fire. Bullets were

flying everywhere, reaching whether it hit something biological, or not.

Suddenly, someone got in a lucky shot, and an unearthly scream went out.

Then another scream was followed through a zipping sound of a bullet

fired. ^YYEEEEEHAWW,^ hollered Pharkas, the young man in Squad One, who

was doing a victory yell in the midst of battle. It appeared that he

managed to snipe an alien that was far away from the squad. ^Get the

f#@$ down idiot,^ yelled Bear and Rhymes, but then a green beam slashed

through, hitting Pharkas straight on the chest, sending him flying to the

tree behind him.

Crighton took position, and sighted a hostile. He looked closer on his

adversary. It was an ugly picture. The hostile had a humanoid body,

gray skin with an enlarged head with two large eyes, and a small and very

skinny body, with its chestbones visible through the skin. It carried

what appears to be a pistol. When Crighton had it in his sights, he

aimed straight for the head and fired, quickly taking the alien out.

Sniper^s Rule: When in doubt, go for the head. It makes jobs easier.

The area was finally secured. Crighton radioed for Squad Two. ^Come in

Squad Two, over.^

What he heard scared the pants off of him.

^Dammit sir, we^re in deep crap. Unknown hostiles are raining down on

us!! Only two are left on my squad^ Sonya^ SONYA!! Get your butt in

here! He^s already dead! Okay^ it^s Sonya and me. They got three of

men easy, they never saw it comin^. Totally burned them to a crisp! You

gotta hurry sir, They^re closing^ zzzt^i^zzzt.^

All there was left was static.

^HEAD STRAIGHT TO THE SITE,^ was all Crighton could say.

When they reached to the site, Squad One was behind the gray skins that

were opening fire on the huge rocks where the pinned-down Squad Two was

hiding with the downed UFO behind them. Squad One ambushed the grays

behind, spraying shots all over. After the battle, Crighton went near

the two Squad Two members.

^There^s still one of them in that UFO,^ said the squad leader.

^Alright,^ said Crighton. ^Demolitions, I want you to set a proximity

grenade near that door.^ Crighton pointed to the a hull with a crevice.

It seemed to look like a door.

Bear primed the grenade, and set it in front of the door. The rest of

the squad hid, and Crighton banged on the wall to drive out the gray.

The door slided open, and when the gray stepped out^

BOOM!

15 minutes later^

After calling for an extraction team, Crighton sat down on a rock. He

was tired. His men were falling down like flies. The enemy^ they seemed

so^ invincible. Although this battle was a victory, Crighton feared what

would actually happen if they were to invade. They had awesome, fearful

weapons. This was no enemy he had ever faced.

Crighton began to feel true fear.

Next episode- Multinational X-Com forces are transferred in New Edwards

Base. CentCOM forces are also transferred into the same base. Also,

successful UFO raid uncovers mysterious plot.

Notes from the author:

No, Chrighton will not be the main character of the story. This fanfic

series will

feature storis of different personnel that experience terrible battles

with the aliens.

This fic is going to be laden with a very gritty, war feel.
