Tsunami's being DENSE.
So what if Tenchi doesn't want a second wife. He _does_
want to keep Tsunami happy. Ergo, a little inspired acting on
her part would have Tenchi crawling to Aeka on his hands and
knees begging her to become his second wife, legal in Japan or
not.
As for the objections I know I'm about to hear, it's a
tradition as old (maybe even older) as mankind that a wife had
the God (or Goddess) given right to manipulate her husband.
To quote an old gag that's often seen stitched on
samplers in many a country kitchen..
"Roosters rule the roost. Hens rule the rooster."
Heheh.
Hells bells.. if she'd been quick enough on the trigger,
she could have forced Tenchi to marry all THREE of them. Aeka,
Ryouko, AND Tsunami. Of course, that would had shot the story
concept to hell, that is, Ryouko ending up with Ranma, but hey,
there were quite a few early societies that did that, with polygamy
that LOOKS like it's a sexual heaven for the man, but is actually
a case of having three women ruling your life. Heh.

Hmmm. I feel a little a little blocked by the sheer range of possible responses
to this sentiment. ^_-
Yes, I understand that Tsunami *could* manipulate Tenchi into marrying all
three, although I don't think Tenchi would have simply kowtowed to her whim on
this. He would need considerable convincing.
HOWEVER, :) that's not really the Tsunami I wanted to portray here. T.H. hit the
nail on the head; the present Tsunami is a third entity -- neither the old
Tsunami who probably viewed the situation more dispassionately nor the Sasami of
emotional extremes, but she is the one who is having to deal with the mess, both
externally, as she's allowed, and internally, trying to decide how best she
wants this accomplished. This Tsunami is truly the marriage of the previous two,
and she can see the situation with a completeness that neither of her previous
incarnations could have.
Second thing is that while Tsunami may desperately wish for reconciliation with
Ryouko and Aeka, I don't think it useful for her to consider coercing,
manipulating, or even asking Tenchi to marry one or both of them. Would she not
take Tenchi's feelings into consideration? His feelings were, after all, the
basis for this whole chain of events.
I've not established that Tsunami would do anything, just almost anything, for
Aeka's and Ryouko's forgiveness, and I don't see Tsunami hoping for
reconciliation with Aeka by holding the carrot of marriage in front of her nose.
(No Ryou-ou-ki jokes, please. :)
You don't want to have a woman run your life? Don't get
married. Or go on dates. Hell, just find a deserted desert island
and move there. ^_^
As I said, it's a pity that Tsunami didn't (and apparently
still hasn't) realized the power over Tenchi's mind that his love
for her gives her.
Of course, the more hentai among us might suggest that it's
a little something ELSE that gives Tsunami her power over Tenchi.
*snigger* Nosebleeds, anyone?
And once Aeka was brought into the marriage (and let us
be honest, into the marriage _bed_, a fact that's just as important
to Aeka), the animosity she bears would lessen and even vanish, soon
enough. Once HER anger was gone, the others would find it that much
harder to hold onto theirs.
Sorry, Ed, but that would be a rather dispassionate and mercenary solution to
the problem on Tsunami's part; stock-in-trade for the old Tsunami, perhaps, but
this is a different person, one tempered with Sasami's sense of relational
quality.
I *think* when you say Tsunami is pissing you off, you're being rhetorical :),
but I could very well be mistaken. :)
