Hmmm. Okay, I think my confusion about Loren stems from the first chapter.
When as we first meet Loren, she and Mayumi are almost attacked by the
street, and Loren makes it stop with a single word. When she's gone, the
street reflects how lucky it was that the Old One didn't do worse to it, and
hoped it understood. It also makes a mention of the being (meaning Loren)
that had chosen to wrap itself in human guise in the process.
Chisato

In the TV series, Chisato is a Shinma.
She is? Okay, see, I've only ever seen the first few episodes of Miyu, and
that was a few years ago. I'm not even sure if it was the TV series or an OAV.
I am just following this idea. I have slightly altered the concept as in the

Agreed. But even accepting that Loren is just some kind of immortal with
heavy duty psi/magical firepower, surely she would have heard of the Shinma
at some point? Especially in the old days when the supernatural wasn't as
concerned about hiding itself as it is now.
Loren knows that Mayumi has been acting odd, but just puts that down to the
way her >family is. You are right in that perhaps I should have made Loren a
bit more suspicious >about how Mayumi maniplates the others, but the idea was
