It wasn't much of a surprise anyway, IMO. The avoidance of gender
pronouns and lack of any gender-specific description made it blatantly

Frankly, I have to wonder what the point of stories like this is. It
doesn't seem all that shocking or audacious to me that an author can
depict two more or less randomly-chosen characters having sex. If the
story had done anything to make itself even remotely plausible, then you
might have something.
I agree. The only point of this "teaser" seemed to be to make non-yaoi
fans
react with "EEWWWW!!!" and yaoi fans react with "......." (or maybe
"Uh....
that's it?").
No. That wasn't the point at all. Not in the least. It was a word play with
the title. As I mentioned before, I thought it was rather obvious at the
time I sent it out. Others' reactions would indicate otherwise. :( Next time
I'll be less subtle.
Besides, doing a bait-and-switch like this with non-yaoi fans
can be an unpleasent shock to the system -- though I suspect that was the
intent of the fic.
Bait-and-switch in general? Yes, there was one. Targeted at non-yaoi fans?
No. It wasn't aimed at anyone in particular. Unpleasent shock? Definitely
not what I was going for. A groan perhaps at a pad pun and obvious bait and
switch, but that's the worst I expected.
As someone who's not terribly offended by shounen ai, I still personally
find shockfics annoying rather than entertaining anyway.
*Sigh* It wasn't a shockfic. I would have done a full version if I was going
for such a reaction. I think that would be rather obvious as well given the
variety of material I've written over time. I certainly wouldn't shun from
doing such if I so felt inclined.
Shockfics seem
like a pretty cheap way to get a rise out of an audience, rather than,
say,
using a genuine plot twist. I'm not much for PWP lemons either, though,
so
that's probably my bias speaking.

You're comparing apples and oranges here, since this wasn't meant to be an
'entertaining lemon'. It was word play on the title with a non-too-subtle
misdirection ploy in it. That's all. Little more than a large (in size)
joke.

C'mon, DB, you're a good writer. You don't need to resort to this kind
of thing. ^_^
Mm-hm. But come on, Gary, as the resident pun-meister, you gotta at least
give him credit for the title. ^_^
Oh well, at least you got that. I do fear the material within deflected the
true punchline of the work in the use the title. At least that seems to be
the prevailing feeling for many.
